H.E Adelina Mwau OGW

Bio Data.

In 2002, Hon. Adelina Mwau was nominated as a Member of Parliament and was a Member of the Public Accounts Committee. She was later appointed as an Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Labour and Human Resource Development. She was subsequently appointed as Governor’s running mate by H.E. Prof. Kivutha Kibwana in 2012 and is currently the Deputy Governor in the Government of Makueni County. A Gender Specialist & Author, she is the Advisor and Founder Member of Women’s Research Centre & Development Institute (WRC-DI) and is one of the Directors and owner of St Teresia Kilungu Academy & Formation Centre.

She is the Founder and Board Member of several organizations and political parties e.g.  COVAW-K, Kenya Women Political Alliance, Narc-Kenya and Institute for Social Transformation in Uganda among others. She worked as a Regional Programme Officer, WILDAF (Women in Law and Development in Africa) based in Harare – Zimbabwe, Co-founder & Facilitator- Training for Transformation (TFT) International Diploma Programme. Worked as a Gender Program Officer in Oxfam Kenya and as an Adult Training Coordinator, Dioceses of Marsabit and also served in the National Adult Education Consultants with Catholic Dioceses of Kenya.

She served as a Commissioner in Mainstreaming Gender in the Constitution-Ufungamano Commission, Played an active role in Mainstreaming Gender Programmes in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, South Africa, U.K., Sudan & Somalia, Developing Gender Sensitive Training Manuals for Health Service Providers, adult education animators, Government and non- Governmental policy makers, Conceptualising, implementing and monitoring community gender based violence programmes & fundraising. She has 5 years experience in engendering bills, motions and budgets in the 9th Parliament.

She holds a Masters Degree in Development Studies at the Institute of Development Studies-the Hague, Holland and a Diploma in Adult Education at the Institute of Adult Studies-University of Nairobi. She trained in DELTA (Development Education Leadership Teams in Action)- A 4- phased training in Participatory approaches to development organised by Kenya Catholic Secretariat, Department of Development.

In 2013, she was nominated for the Award of OGW by the Devolution and Planning Ministry. She is the author of various publications for instance,the Oxfam Gender Training Manual and Co-author of a Training Manual on Gender & Human Rights-a publication of WHO. Her passion for special needs of the girl child has led to development of a project that seeks to address Menstruation Management and Hygiene Practices in rural public primary and secondary schools in Makueni County.
