Ajira Digital Program

The Department of Education, Youth, Sports and ICT has collaborated with the national government through the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology (MoICT) to implement Ajira Digital Program. The initiative seeks to promote online work in Makueni County. The program aims at supporting youth in Makueni to build online work careers.

The training program will not only provide skills to young people, but will also begin to build a nation of brilliance and obligation among youths here in Makueni. In order to achieve this, Ajira Digital Program aims to introduce young people to online digital work and provide them with the tools, training and mentorship needed for them to work anywhere and at any time provided that they can access a smartphone or other digital device and internet connection. This translates to the fact that they become self-employed. This will in turn allow them (the youth) an opportunity to enjoy economic freedom as they will earn an income online hence improving their livelihoods at the same time safeguarding social economic standing for their families.

Ajira Program Training here in Makueni will be taking place at the CIC centres. The centres which offer basic ICT training and E-government services to the citizens, allow youth opportunities to access ICT training right at the grass roots.The centres participating in the training are Wote, Matiliku, Mulala, Tawa, Nunguni, Kasikeu, Kikima and Kalawani.

The program aims at bridging the gap between skills demand and lack of jobs. Ajira Digital Program seeks to place Kenya as a choice of labour destination for multinationals, local companies and the public sector. Ensuring that Makueni county aligns itself to the realization of Vision 2030, which aspires to make Kenya a globally competitive knowledge-based middle-income economy.
