Makueni County Youth, Men, Women, Persons with Disabilities and Table banking Groups Empowerment Fund (TETHEKA FUND)
BACKGROUND
The Makueni county government established a Fund – Makueni County Youth, Men, Women, Persons with Disability and Table banking Groups Empowerment Fund which aims at providing a fund that is accessible to all groups in the community.
The objectives of the fund:
- Provide access to capital and financing facilities to micro and small enterprises owned by youth, men, women and persons with disabilities resident in the County;
- Attract and facilitate investment in micro and small enterprises;
- Advance loans to table-banking groups within the County
- Support youth, men, women and persons with disabilities oriented micro and small enterprises to develop linkages with large enterprises;
- Facilitate training, mentorship and the provision of business development services to youth, men, women and persons with disabilities and table banking groups in the County;
- Facilitate marketing of products and services of micro and small enterprises owned by youth, men, women and persons with disabilities resident in the County in both domestic and international markets; and
- Facilitate employment of youth, men, women and persons living with disabilities resident in the County in the international labour market.
The fund is based on the premise that micro, small and medium enterprise development initiatives are likely to have the biggest impact on job creation and create livelihood opportunities and spur economic growth in the County. The fund is open to Youth, Men, Women and Persons with Disabilities and Table Banking Groups in the County. Groups are required to be duly registered.
PRODUCTS AVAILABLE
The following are products developed by departments within the Makueni County Government:-
- Group Loans – Mkopo Vikundi
- Business Empowerment – Kuza Biashara
- Youth in Innovative Business – Inua Youth
- Dam Liners – For Farm Ponds
- Fruit Development – Mkopo Matunda
- Livestock Development – Mkopo Mifugo
- Irrigation System Development – Mkopo Unyunyizaji Maji
- Vegetable Traders – Mkopo Mboga
- Shares Loan – Special for ENE Microfinance
AMOUNT OF MONEY ACCESSIBLE FOR TETHEKA EMPOWERMENT FUND
A minimum of Ksh. 50,000 and a maximum of Ksh 200,000 at a time; the funds are distributed on a first come first served basis for all the 30 wards within the Makueni County.
“Shares Loan – Special for ENE Microfinance” has a limit of up to Ksh 1m.
Factors considered:
- The length of time the group has been in existence-for groups
- Transactions on the bank statement.
- The proposed plan/reason for the loan.
- Security provided – the individual business loans
- Past record of the applicant with the fund – if any
- Amount applied
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
(A) FOR INDIVIDUAL
- Be a Makueni county residence
- Be over 18 years old
- Not listed with CRB
- Full repaid past loan(s) with the Fund-if any
- Applied for the loan and attached the necessary attachments as required
(B) FOR GROUPS
- Operating within Makueni county
- A group of at least ten (10) members
- Have been in operation for at least six (6) months
- Not listed with CRB
- Full repaid past loan(s) with the Fund -if any
- Applied for the loan and attached the necessary attachments as required
An application must be accompanied by:
GROUPS;
- Filled Tetheka Loan Application Form
- Valid copy of the group registration certificate
- Copies of minutes for three (3) most recent group meetings
- Certified bank statement
- ID copies of all the group members
- ID copies for guarantors
- List members with IDS Tel numbers and their signatures.
- relevant group records
INDIVIDUALS;
- Passport size photo
- Filled Tetheka Loan Application Form
- ID copy of the applicant
- Copy of KRA certificate
- Copy of security – i.e. copy of log book for business empowerment applicants
(IF security provided is not owned by the applicant, a letter from the owner of the security should accompany the application)
- Copy of business permit-for business empowerment applicants
- Drawn map showing the residence and the business location- for business empowerment applicants
- Special condition form for Agricultural loans-for agribusiness related loans
ACCESSING THE MAKUENI TETHEKA FUND
Step 1: Visit www.makueni.go.ke/tetheka read through to check your eligibility or group eligibility
Step 2: Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria
Step 3: Fill the relevant application form
Step 4: Submit the filled application form together with relevant documents to your ward Administrator office
Step 5: Await notification from the TETHEKA Fund office.
LOAN PROCESSING
Step 1: Ward committee vets the form
Step 2: County Fund Committee vets the forms
Step 3: Status notification send to the applicants (successful and unsuccessful)
Step 4: Training of the successful applicants (groups)
Step 5: Successful applicant forms forwarded to the bank for the applicants to be awarded the loans.
Note: The process takes at an average two (2) months from the day you submit your application to Your Ward Administrator office.
: All unsuccessful applicants can only be considered upon applying for the loans afresh having rectified the earlier mistakes if possible.
REPAYMENT PLAN
- The loans have a three (3) months grace period
- After the grace period the loan is repayable in at most twelve (12) months installments
NB: Only under reasonable situations loan repayment might be rescheduled.
How repay your loan
– DEPOSIT YOUR MONEY INTO YOUR BANK ACCOUNT MONTHLY BEFORE 25TH
For KCB accounts holders
- Go to your M-PESA menu,
- Select Lipa na M-PESA,
- Enter PayBill number 522522,
- Enter your KCB account number you are transferring money to, enter the amount, and your M-PESA PIN and confirm to send money
