𝟭𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲,𝗪𝗼𝘁𝗲-Officials from Vihiga County Government Tuesday visited Makueni County Referral Hospital (MCRH) for a benchmarking exercise to learn best practices in hospital solarisation and the use of renewable energy.
MCRH operates a 210kW solar power system that has reduced its monthly electricity bill from KSh 2 million to KSh 1.2 million, saving the county approximately KSh 7 million annually.
Speaking during the visit, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health, Joyce Mutua, emphasised the importance of maximising the use of solar energy as a sustainable resource.
Joyce commended the project, noting that it had enhanced power stability and enabled uninterrupted delivery of services.
She also highlighted the role of partnerships in achieving this milestone in green energy.
MCRH Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Martha Munyao, noted that solar power had eased service delivery by reducing electricity costs and ensuring a more reliable power supply.
The Vihiga delegation was led by Vihiga County Referral Hospital CEO Titus Mumia, alongside other county officials.
The visiting team acknowledged Makueni’s achievement in green energy and expressed its commitment to exploring the implementation of a similar initiative and future collaborations with Makueni.
