𝗞𝗶𝗺𝗮, 𝟴𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲-Makueni residents have called for stronger passenger safety, accountability and better transport infrastructure during a public participation forum on the proposed Makueni County Public Transport Policy prepared in partnership with Flone Initiative Trust held in Kima, Kilome Sub-county on Thursday.
During the forum, residents proposed measures including vehicle identification numbers, passenger receipts and receipts for goods transported, saying these would help trace vehicles and provide evidence in case of incidents. They also called for better-lit bus parks, emergency ambulances, traffic separation and workplace inclusivity. Other proposals included cycling and motorbike ways, improved road signs and safe crossing points, particularly around schools, as well as a yellow line to identify vehicles such as probox and Sientas if they are allowed to operate as PSVs.
County officials urged residents to continue sharing practical ideas and experiences to help shape a transport policy that responds to their everyday needs. The public participation process is giving residents an opportunity to influence proposals aimed at improving passenger safety, accountability, accessibility and the overall public transport experience across Makueni.
