Makueni Showcases Water Solutions in Mtito Andei.
Mtito Andei, 17th September 2026- Makueni on Thursday showcased the impact of community-led water investments as the Government of Makueni County and Neighbours Initiative Alliance (NIA) hosted Miss Universe Netherlands in Mtito Andei to highlight projects transforming lives through improved water access and community-led climate action.
The visit featured the Makingo Self-Help Group managing Maji Kwa Kila Boma Water Project in Makutano, a community-led initiative benefiting 300 households through improved access to water. The project is among eight initiatives supported by the Neighbours Initiative Alliance under the Water Justice Fund, demonstrating how communities can identify and implement solutions to local water challenges.
The projects supported through the initiative include water storage tanks, water kiosks, solar-powered systems, pipelines and rehabilitation of water sources, helping bring water closer to communities while strengthening local ownership and resilience.
The county team was led by Chief Officer Water, Sanitation and Irrigation David Makau, together with officers from the Department of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation. The engagement provided an opportunity to showcase how strategic partnerships and community participation are advancing last-mile water connectivity across Makueni.
