𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮, 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Wednesday morning hosted the National Land Commission (NLC), led by Chairperson Abdullahi Alawy, during a courtesy call held on the sidelines of the Commission’s public participation forum on the Draft Historical Land Injustices Regulations, 2026.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the County Government and the NLC to resolve long-standing land injustices affecting residents of Makueni, some of which date back to the early years of Kenya’s independence.

Among the key issues agreed for fast-tracked action are:

Kwitu Kinyoo Community land claim involving Ukambani Agricultural Institute (UKAI), South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) and others.

Katende Forest Squatters land claim involving the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

Chyulu Hills Squatters and Chyulu Hills/Mikululo Evictees land claims involving the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS).

Claims by Mulima and Manooni Dam Project Affected Persons.

Land tenure regularization under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Programme (KISIP) for plots in Emali, Mtito Andei, Kathonzweni and Wote.

Regularization of public institutions and utilities occupying public land within Wote.

Compensation for affected persons under the Kwa Mbila Dam Project.

Fast-tracking compensation for landowners affected by the Thwake Dam, Kibwezi–Kitui Road and Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) projects.

Governor Mutula reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the National Land Commission and all relevant agencies to ensure justice for affected communities, safeguard land rights and accelerate the resolution of historical land disputes that have remained unresolved for decades.
