Governor Mutula calls for greater participation of youth in entrepreneurship




The First Lady Anita Mutula was accompanied by her Wajir counterpart Rukia Abdinasir, EIDU Senior Project Lead Clara Ruiz Linaje, Abdirashid M. Jabane the Secretary Administration State Department of ICT among other key Education stakeholdersThis program is geared towards enhancing personalized learning, developing accountability among learners and teachers as well as improving written language skills and communication.The programme, launched by County First Lady Anita Mutula on Friday will benefit 35,574 learners in 1191 ECDE centres across the count.
Makueni on Thursday opened doors to one of its kind, a community-led development school and the first in Africa at Wote.
The school seeks to train citizens, community leaders, civil society professionals, and government officials from across the county and the country at large to ensure that every person has a voice in decisions that affect their lives.
It will also provide a platform to strengthen the capacity of county officials and community members on how they can be involved to localize sustainable development blueprints by the county.
While presiding over the inaugural function, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr described the school as timely, adding that the center will offer collaborative learning that will be demonstrating the power of government-civil society partners.
In his keynote address, John Coonrod, vice president of the Global Hunger project and the founder of Movement for Community-Led Development (MCLD) lauded the county community-led development aspect, saying that it’s the only way to structure society consistently with human dignity as it moves decision-making closer to the people.
Governor Kilonzo re-signed a M.O.U with John Coonrod where its collaboration includes fundraising for county development initiatives, capacity strengthening of county departments on proposal writing, and fundraising among other key areas.
100 young people are set to join the Makueni County Public Service through the county internship program for a period of one year.
The program will help the interns gain valuable work experience by networking with professionals in the various county departments as well as give them a platform to explore a career path through developing and refining skills.
The young people were competitively selected by the County public service board and are a representation from the 30 wards in the county. This is the sixth cohort to join the county public service since devolution.
On Thursday, the interns started a 2-day induction to equip them with various public service policies, processes and office etiquette before they settle down in the various workstations.
The induction workshop was officially opened by Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili. According to Mulili, the interns will be subjected to performance appraisals so as to focus on specific targets.
Others present during the official opening of the induction workshop include ICT and Education CEC Elizabeth Muli, Chief Officers for ICT, Education and Internship, Financial services and Livestock, Alphonse Kanunga, Nicholi s Mutua, John Nguni and Dr. Victoria Kyalo respectively.
