MAKUENI INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2.0.

Makueni Innovation Challenge

The Government of Makueni County in collaboration with partners is running the second edition of the Makueni Innovation Challenge with the aim of catalyzing the growth of startups, so as to amplify and consolidate the gains of the country’s digital innovative ecosystem. The theme for the Makueni Innovation Challenge 2.0  is “Unlocking the Digital Transformation Potential for Climate Action”.

Startups from across Kenya that meet the requirements are invited to participate in the challenge for an opportunity to win cash prizes and incubation in the Makueni Tech and Innovation Hub and associated hubs countywide. Entries to the Makueni Innovation Challenge 2.0. competition are to be submitted online through https://innovations.makueni.go.ke

APPLICATION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Open to early stage innovators – can be an individual or group
  • Innovator(s) currently residing or born in Kenya. Groups encouraged to apply
  • Idea must be innovative and unique, realistic and logical (proof of concept)
  • Idea must demonstrate potential to scale
  • Idea must fall in line with the theme of the challenge

Complete entries will entail an elevator pitch (a short summary of the solution), target users, solution scalability, social impact among other aspects. The profile will be used by the competition judges (who will be drawn from the industry and government) to assess the potential of the startup to become a sustainable high growth enterprise.

The finalists of the Makueni Innovation Challenge will be invited to pitch (expenses covered) to an audience of Investors, Development Partners, Government Representatives, Operators and other key stakeholders from Kenya. The finalists will receive training and coaching on how to pitch to investors.

The deadline for submission of applications is on 28th February 2022. Applicants are encouraged to curate their startup profiles early as they might need to research or source some of the information required widely.
