H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has called for peace and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all Kenyans without any distinction.
Speaking during the burial of Benson Kithuku at Nthaani, Kitundu, Mbooni West sub-County, the governor insisted that peace must be a priority before building the economy of any nation.
He expressed his confidence with the ongoing bipartisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions that the committee will bring solutions.
He eulogized the late retired teacher and a unionist as a development oriented leader.
Mr. Kithuku served as Makueni KNUT Executive Secretary between 1994-2006 before joining politics where he unsuccessfully vied for Mbooni MP seat in 2013 and 2017.
Other leaders present were: Senator Dan Maanzo, Wilson Sossion, the former Knut Secretary-General among others.

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr , a team from Diaspora Outreach Development Foundation Incorporated (DODFI) led by Prof. Philip M. Mutisya, today, held discussions on possible investment opportunities in Makueni on matters, education, technology, food security, and water, among others.
DODFI agreed to attract investment finance for projects in Makueni.
Kyalo Mumo, the Majority Leader at the County Assembly of Makueni, accompanied the visiting delegation to the governor.

The governor who visited the family on Friday evening at their Kasikeu home prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and comfort for the loved ones that mourn.
She will be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday September 23, 2023.

The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Hurbetus Maria Van Megan, the Apostolic Nuncio for Kenya and South Sudan, and Rt. Rev. Norman King’oo, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos.
Governor Mutula expressed a close working relationship with clergy and extended his congratulations to the newly ordained team.
7 seminarians were ordained as deacons while 5 deacons were ordained as priests.

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday joined other Ukambani governors Julius Malombe (Kitui) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) for the 2nd Summit Meeting of South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) in Kitui County.
For Makueni through the body, the governors agreed to fast track the tarmacking of Emali-Ukia, Sultan-Kikoko, Kikima-Mbumbuni roads, completion of Konza Techno City, establishment of specialized units where Makueni will have a trauma centre and pursuing for at least 10% of Tourism proceeds of Tsavo national park to benefit Makueni people.
SEKEB will hold Stakeholders Forum in October, 2023, at Thwake Dam with the three governors expected to Strengthen their political bargain with the national government and speak in unison as Ukambani for the region’s economic growth and push for establishing aggregation Centres and Industrial Parks.
The bloc reported that Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) had assured commencement of construction of Katulani – Thwake dam up to Wote Town road.

GROWING SEASON STARTS STRONG

With the rains already setting in, timely fertilizer is more crucial than ever for farmers preparing their fields.

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development has begun delivering subsidized fertilizer to satellite depots, providing farmers with timely support as the planting season gets underway.

This follows an MoU between the County Government and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to ensure fertilizer reaches farmers closer to their homes.

The distribution is based on local demand and crop acreage to ensure every farming area receives what is needed for the October–November–December season.

This program is prioritizing the distribution of planting fertilizer in the first weeks of November, with Agricultural Extension Officers already on the ground offering guidance to farmers on proper application to boost yields and improve soil health.

Once planting ends, the county will request additional top-dressing fertilizers to strengthen crops through the growth phase.

During the first phase of delivery, fertilizer has already begun reaching Nunguni, Mukuyuni, Kikima and Kasikeu depots, with more scheduled to follow across the county, as farmers are encouraged to visit their nearest depot for guidance and collection

One inspiring story shared during the Makueni Agricultural and Trade Fair is that of Felisters Katiku, a 24-year-old from Kambi Mawe. Though living with a physical disability, Felisters has become a shining example of strength and determination.

With support from Arabuko Limited and the County Government of Makueni, Felisters received training in modern farming, along with quality seedlings (kale, spinach, and managu), cone bags, farm tools and water tanks. Today, she is growing her own fresh vegetables and building a brighter future—one harvest at a time.

With hard work and the right support, Felisters turned her small vegetable garden into a success story. What started as a few seedlings has now grown into a steady source of food for her family. Even better, she sells the extra vegetables and earns some income.

Her garden is now more than just a farm; it’s a symbol of hope. Felisters’ determination is inspiring others in her community to believe that they too can grow, succeed and change their lives.

Felisters’ story is a proof that when the county government invests in its residents—especially youth and persons living with disabilities, the government unlock potential that transforms communities.

With focus on youth, similar partnerships by the county Government of Makueni County go beyond business into creating real jobs, real change and a healthier, more empowered county.
