๐ช๐ผ๐๐ฒ, ๐ฎ๐ณ๐๐ต ๐ข๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ – HE. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Tuesday launched nine strategic documents to strengthen county health and nutrition interventions, tackle malnutrition and accelerate progress towards national and county health goals.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Mutula reaffirmed his administrationโs commitment to quality healthcare, emphasizing that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. He described every maternal death as a tragedy, underscoring the need for stronger interventions to protect mothers and newborns.
The Governor also thanked development partners and stakeholders, noting that their collaboration has contributed to improved access to quality health and nutrition services across Makueni County.
Among the documents launched is the Makueni County Multi-Sectoral Food and Nutrition Security Policy, developed through a collaborative partnership between the county Department of Health Services and Nutrition International.
Others include the Makueni Nutrition Action Plan 2025/26โ2029/30, the Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan 2026โ2028, which seeks to reduce maternal and newborn deaths through a six-month rapid-results initiative, and the Makueni County Health Research Agenda 2026โ2030.
The remaining documents cover maternal and newborn health protocols, nutrition advocacy under OMMI, the current situation analysis on MNCAHN+N in Makueni County, and the perinatal investment case.
The multi-sectoral initiative brings together departments and stakeholders across health, agriculture, lands, finance, gender and other sectors to address food insecurity, malnutrition and maternal and newborn health challenges.
