๐ช๐ผ๐๐ฒ, ๐ญ๐ฏ๐๐ต ๐ข๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฟ – Makueni County is emerging as a model for data-driven governance, with the Council of Governors (CoG), through its Maarifa Centre, undertaking a two-day benchmarking exercise to learn from the countyโs best practices in the production and use of County Statistical Abstracts (CSAs).
The delegation, led by Brian Akasta, paid a courtesy call on Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Tuesday morning, marking the start of an exercise aimed at documenting Makueniโs experience in generating, publishing and applying statistical data to inform county development priorities.
The team noted Makueniโs consistency in producing and publishing County Statistical Abstracts, positioning the county as a model for other devolved units seeking to institutionalise data-driven planning and decision-making.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Mutula underscored the critical role of reliable statistical information in shaping development priorities, allocating resources and improving service delivery.
He highlighted how his administration has leveraged data to guide interventions across key sectors, including health, education, trade, nutrition, water and broader economic planning.
The governor emphasised that collecting data alone is not enough; its real value lies in translating information into actionable policies, budgetary allocations and measurable development outcomes.
The two-day benchmarking exercise seeks to capture Makueniโs approach, document lessons learnt and identify practices that other counties can adapt to strengthen evidence-based planning, monitoring and evaluation.
