Speaking during the Leadership Programme for National Transformation (LPNT) at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi, Governor Kilonzo Jr shared Makueniโ€™s development experience with the program participants including county secretaries, chief executive officers, chief officers and other leaders from government institutions and county governments.

Anchored in the countyโ€™s Andu Mbee (People First) philosophy, Makueniโ€™s model places citizens at the centre of development, with wards serving as the basic planning units for identifying priorities, monitoring projects and strengthening accountability.

The Governor highlighted key service delivery indicators in health that have contributed to the Makueni health services success. He also cited 151 strategic partnerships supporting the countyโ€™s development agenda.

He emphasised agriculture as a critical pathway to poverty reduction, calling for stronger market linkages, investment-ready land use and strategic partnerships that translate public resources into tangible benefits.

Participants thanked the Governor for sharing Makueniโ€™s experience, noting that the county offered practical lessons on translating devolution into equitable development. They also recognised his Senate background and understanding of constitutional and legal frameworks as valuable perspectives in examining governance and leadership.

The engagement reinforced key lessons: transformation begins with governance reforms, public participation must shape development priorities, and data-driven accountability is essential for results.

The Governor challenged leaders to innovate, collaborate and build on existing foundations, emphasising that leadership must ultimately be measured by its impact on citizensโ€™ lives.
