WOTE MUNICIPALITY BOARD MEMBERS SWORN INTO OFFICE

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Tuesday Witnessed swearing-in of the Wote Municipality Board members after they were vetted and approved by the County Assembly.

Mutula has tasked the board to move with speed and implement the functions he signed off for transfer to the municipality to enhance service delivery.

Some of the priorities the board will be tasked to address include waste management, water provision, drainage and sewer system for Wote town, Solar lighting of the markets within the municipality, roads maintenance and upgrading of urban centres, especially Wote town to instill investor confidence.

The members sworn into office are:

1. Benjamin Masungwa

2. Everlyn Mulewa Kimuli

3. Romeo Ndeveni

4. Benjamin Wambua Mutua

5. Daniel Kisyang’a

6. Paul Maundu Mutua

A 7th member, Angela Kiamba,  who is out of the country will be sworn at a later date.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JR IN HIS OFFICE ON THURSDAY MET A DELEGATION OF HERDERS FROM THE COUNTIES OF BARINGO, TURKANA, ELGEYO MARAKWET, POKOT, TURKANA

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr in his office on Thursday met a delegation of herders from the counties of Baringo, Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Pokot, Turkana who had pitched camp in Makueni County on a three-day alternative livelihood learning tour and to experience Makueni.

The delegation comprised of 72 youth herders and reformed cattle rustlers from the North Rift region who toured successful youth-led initiatives supported by the county government.

The lessons learnt from the tour can serve as an effective approach to disengage these youths from violence and demobilise them from the perennial cattle raids and conflicts that have impeded development in the North Rift region.

Gratitude to the International Organization for Peacebuilding (INTERPEACE) Interpeace and other stakeholders, including the Parklands Baptist Church, Love EMBRACED initiative for facilitating and supporting the participation of these 72 youths in this exploration and learning experience.

MAKUENI RECEIVES SH. 11M MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FROM SHELDRICK TRUST.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Wednesday received essential medical equipment worth Sh 11 million from David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to equip Mtito-Andei Sub-county Hospital.

The equipment, presented by Angela Sheldrick- Chief Executive Officer of the Wildlife Protection Trust is meant to enhance the hospital’s capacity to offer quality healthcare services to the community.

Newborn Resucitaire Machine, portable ultrasound machine, portable X-ray machine, automated chemistry analyzer, automated hematology analyzer, baby incubators, oxygen concentrator and beds are some of the equipment donated by the Trust.

Governor Mutula said this donation is a result of his administration’s resolve to work with strategic partners to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and improve quality of life for Makueni citizenry.

KAITI & KILOME SUB COUNTIES: EMERGENCY EVACUATION CAMPS VISIT.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday visited areas affected by heavy rainfall as well as evacuation camps sheltering residents who were displaced due to mudslides and flooding.

Through the Department of Devolution, Emergency Services and Special Programs and well wishers, the Governor distributed relief food, mattresses, blankets, clothing, medical supplies and essential personal effects to the displaced.

The evacuation camps visited were; Katulye Primary School, Kya Kituku Primary School, Kavata Nzou Primary School (Kaiti SubCounty) and Kawese Primary in Kilome Sub County.

Governor Mutula’s Walking-Work Tour of Sultan Hamud

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Thursday embarked on a crucial working tour of Sultan Hamud, walking street to street for a development appraisal of the town.

The tour was meant to gather vital insights towards designs of key infrastructure to uplift the town and the Emali-Sultan Hamud Municipality as a whole. An open air market, drainage system, alternative water sources and a sports complex are some of the development initiatives being considered.

During the tour, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr was accompanied by Executive Committee Members of line ministries, engineers and local leaders . The Governor emphasized the importance of community involvement in all development initiatives.

Governor Mutula Inks Partnership Deal with Christian Aid

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Wednesday inked a working partnership with Christian Aid Kenya to enhance Climate Justice, Food Security, Health and Nutrition

The Christian Aid team, led by Country DirectorJanet Ngombalu, also visted Kaiti Kwa Kitungu the newly constructed sand dam to witness some of the innovative climate adaption actions the county is employing.

The signing was witnessed by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Executive Committee Member for Environment and Climate Change Dr Sonia Nzilani and Chief Officer Japheth Kiminza.

CS Mutua and Governor Mutula Unveil Comprehensive Measures to Mitigate Human-Wildlife Conflict.

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Dr. Alfred Mutua and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr have announced a raft of measures by the two levels of government to resolve the menacing human-wildlife conflict in Kibwezi which included:

Rapid Response Initiative: Collaborative efforts between the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the local community (Wananchi) to implement real-time interventions designed to keep wildlife away from human settlements.

Electric Fence Completion: An expedited plan to finalize the installation of an electric fence, creating a permanent barrier between human settlements and wildlife. The national government has committed Sh 150 million for the completion of the remaining two sections.

Enhanced Surveillance: A bolstered surveillance system, incorporating additional personnel and vehicles, to monitor and address the presence of marauding animals effectively.

The two spoke at Kyusyani in Mtito-Andei and Kisayani in Kibwezi during a public engagement forum on the wildlife conflict. Others present were MPs Jessica Mbalu and Mwengi Mutuse, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, KWS officials and area MCAs.

Governor Mutula honours 3,600 Community Health Promoters

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has feted the county’s 3,625 Community Health Promoters as true heroes during Mashujaa Day Celebrations. The County celebration was held at Katulye Primary School, Kaiti Sub-county.

This, he said, will improve services offered at Primary Health facilities and improve access to care through effective promotive and preventive service provision.

The governor also honoured Winfred Mutile YAVI (now running for Bahrain), an international athlete who is from Makueni, started her athletics career in Makueni. She recently won the 3,000 steeplechase Gold medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Yavi is currently nominated for the World Athletics Awards as World Athlete of The Year 2023.
