GIRLS IN ICT DAY.

The Government of Makueni County, in collaboration with Makueni Youth Network, today marked Girls in ICT Day at Wote Green Park through an impactful initiative focused on empowering the girl child. The event was graced by Chief Officer ICT Naomi Nthambi, Makueni County Solicitor Jeniffer Kyumwa, Program Coordinator Makueni Youth Network Ruth Maingi, Assistant County Commissioner George Lugo, and Director of Gender Services (National Government) Noven Munywoki among other key leaders. The program aimed to equip and build the capacity of girls in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and STEM careers, featuring an engaging panel discussion that provided deeper insights into emerging technologies, future career pathways, touching on cybersecurity and digital safety laws highlighting the importance of responsible technology use, online protection, and legal awareness in the digital space. Ghana Bench Marks on Mango Value Addition, Lauds the Kalamba Processing Plant.

Makueni Agriculture and Irrigation Chief Officer Daniel Ndolo on Monday hosted a high powered delegation from Ghana who are in Makueni for a bench marking tour on Mango value addition.
The team which comprises Mango producers, processors and Exporters is seeking for trading opportunities with the County government through the Makueni County Fruit Development and Marketing Authority.
They visited some Mango farmers around Mwaani area and the Makueni Fruit processing plant at Kalamba.
The team was thrilled by the factory and lauded the County government for the efforts it has put in place towards reduction of post harvest losses in mango production.
According to the Makueni Fruit Development and Marketing Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer Agnes Kitili, the county government spent over Sh18 Million to pay local mango farmers for supply to the plant during this year’s mango season.

Getting Health Priorities Right

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili on Friday presided over the Annual Performance and Mid -Year Health Services implementation Review Workshop by the top county medical cadre in Mombasa.
The workshop brought together different health sector unit heads and the sub-county health teams, directors and the executive committee member to draw a roadmap of accelerating roll out of transformative health programs in line with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr’s vision.
The workshop sought to among others: identify the 24-hour health services provision facilities at the ward level; review past performances, identify inherent gaps and strengths in service delivery as well as setting priorities for the 2023/2024 Financial Year.
Mulili said the current Makueni administration is keen on delivering the best quality attainable healthcare to the residents of Makueni using the available resources.
 
 

GENDER-SENSITIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING AIMS TO ENHANCE INCLUSIVE HEALTHCARE IN MAKUENI COUNTY

Makueni County, in partnership with Jhpiego and the Anita Mbinya Foundation, is conducting a rigorous three-day training program designed to cultivate gender-sensitive leadership within the county’s health management teams.

The workshop’s core aim is to arm participants with the requisite knowledge and strategies to develop healthcare systems that are both inclusive and equitable. By focusing on gender-sensitive leadership, the initiative seeks to effectively tackle and diminish gender disparities in the county’s healthcare sector.

Dr. Stephen Mwatha, Ag.Director in charge of Health Services, emphasized that the modules covered in the training has topics such as resource allocation, project planning and execution, leadership assessment and development, financial management, and performance measurement and evaluation.

Addressing trainees on the second day, Dr. Paul Musila, the County Executive Committee Member for Health, encouraged participants to advocate for gender equality within their professional environments. He stressed that exemplary leadership is vital in providing women with the opportunities to network, learn, and advance in their careers.

GENDER POLICY

The policy provides direction on coordinating gender mainstreaming at both departmental levels of the County Government as well as the wider Makueni County by creating a framework for stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships, gender policy prioritisation for recruitment, training, promotion, procurement opportunities, good governance and overall development.

GENDER OFFICERS EQUIPPED WITH SKILLS TO INTEGRATE SOCIAL SAFEGUARDS IN DEVELOPMENT

The Kenya School of Government continues to play a critical role in strengthening public service by equipping government officers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively deliver development and services to citizens.

In partnership with the World Bank through the Kenya Devolution Support Programme (KDSP), the Department of Gender sponsored a group of officers for a week-long Social Risks Management in development training at the Kenya School of Government’s Lower Kabete campus.

The programme focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of social inclusion, social risk assessment and safeguarding measures in development planning and implementation.

Speaking during the official closing ceremony, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili said the training was timely, given the growing need to address social inclusion, assess social risks and protect vulnerable groups within communities.

Mulili noted that sustainable and meaningful development can only be achieved when social considerations are fully integrated into planning, decision-making and implementation processes.

She emphasized the importance of ensuring that development interventions are inclusive and responsive to the needs of all members of society, particularly vulnerable populations.

Gender executive sworn in amidst high cases of gender based violence

Philip Wambua Ndambuki has been sworn in as the new Executive Committee Member for Gender, Children, Culture and Social Services in the County Government of Makueni.

Ndambuki holds a bachelor’s degree in Arts from the University of Nairobi and several other professional certificates. Prior to his appointment, Wambua had served in the County Rapid Results Initiative and the Service Delivery Unit for close to 2 years.

In a swearing ceremony graced by Makueni County governor Kivutha Kibwana and his deputy Adelina Mwau on Thursday, Ndambuki committed to work hard towards transforming the lives of Makueni residents.

“I feel privileged to join this team of top achievers. I know that it isn’t a walk in the park but I’m determined to elevate the lifestyle of the people of Makueni with cooperation of everyone,” said Ndambuki.

His appointment comes at a time when the county is experiencing a high number of reported gender based related cases.

Mwau, who has been in the forefront towards fighting GBV has asked the new CEC to ensure that the boy child is not left out in protection against sexual harassment and other social injustices.

FY 2022-23 Makueni County Citizen Budget

The FY 2022/23 Budget will be the fifth budget to implement the Second County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP 2018-22). The development theme for FY 2022/23 will be “building community resilience for sustainable development and prosperity”. The theme pushes for revitalizing economic development at the community level by engaging citizens while at the same time building the resilience and the adaptive capacity of the community members. This is in line with the Annual Development Plan, County Budget Review and Outlook Paper and the 2022 County Fiscal Strategy Paper
