453 ECDE teachers on contract were on Monday absorbed by Makueni County as permanent and pensionable at a colourful ceremony presided over by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. at the county headquarters.

Governor Mutula told the teachers that the appointment was a testament of their hard work as they went about shaping the future of our children. The first cohort of 497 were absorbed by the County in January this year.

The teachers were recruited in 2014 on contract, but could not be absorbed owing to budgetary constraints. Governor Mutula thanked the teachers for perservering since 2014.

The Governor also affirmed his commitment to constructing child-friendly ECDE classrooms in the County.

Among those in attendance were Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Chairman County Public Service Board Dr. Nicodemus Muteti, Makueni County Member of National Assembly, Rose Museo, ECMs Elizabeth Muli, ICT, Education and Internships, Dr. Sonia Nzilani, Trade, Japheth Mangoka, Devolution, Nicholas Nzioka, Lands, MCAs Urbanus Manzu, Kee and Deputy Majority Leader Bishop Jonathan Muthoka, Ilima among others.

Makueni County has hired 125 interns to equip them with specialized skills in their respective fields. These interns will be immediately placed across various county departments to hone their skills and prepare for future career opportunities.

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, speaking at the inauguration event held at Green Park on Wednesday, highlighted that the interns will spend the next year working in Makueni. She emphasized that this period is a prime opportunity for them to refine their skills and uncover their talents.

Mulili urged the interns to remain dedicated and take their training seriously, noting that they will receive a monthly stipend of 15,000 Ksh. to support their upkeep during their tenure. She also stressed the importance of developing strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective interaction with supervisors and peers across the 16 departments where they will be deployed.

Elizabeth Muli, the County Executive Committee Member in charge of ICT, Education, and Internship, encouraged the interns to embrace the learning process. She pointed out that every challenge presents a chance to learn and grow, urging the young trainees to take initiative and demonstrate enthusiasm in their tasks.

Muli assured the interns that the government would provide support and guidance, helping them gain valuable experience in their areas of specialization, which will be crucial in securing employment after the internship period.

The event was also attended by several dignitaries, including MCAs Jonathan Muthoka (Ilima Ward) and Sarah Mbilo (Nominated), Peter Mumo, ECM for Gender, Sternly Nthiw’a, County Attorney, and Chief Officers Irene Makau (Education), Alfonce Kanunga (ICT), and Bonface Mutua (Planning), among other officials, who shared words of wisdom and encouragement with the aspiring professionals.

The Department of ICT, Education and Internship CECM graced the launch of Alice Ngunzu digital lab at Ngaa secondary school in Kisau/ Kiteta Ward Mbooni sub county.

Equiped with high end computing devices with top notch specs, the digital laboratory will serve neighboring secondary and primary schools in a bid to enhance digital literacy.

This initiative will provide a seamless transition to the CBC curriculum on matters science and technology.

While making her remarks,the CECM reiterated Governor’s agenda on automation of government services where ICT centers have been implemented.

Ms. Elizabeth Muli also emphasized on the importance of tech savvy as the future is bound on technology.

She also promised that the county government, through her department will ensure setting up of a digital infrastructure and maintainance of the same to ensure the citizenry is digitally empowered through our ICT centers.

The CECM also pledged to donate 2000 books to Ngaa secondary school, a noble course towards promoting quality education.

While addressing the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) members in their ongoing conference, the CECM ICT, Education and Internship has lauded them for the integral part they play in every child’s life and in shaping the nation at large.

Centering her message on Digital Learning, Ms Muli delved into the benefits of embracing technology in the school curriculum.

These include providing a platform for teachers to personalize instructions for each student needs, creating ease in tracking students learning progress via adaptive learning software and data analytics as parents experience greater visibility into their children’s
learning journey at the click of a button through accessing progress reports and
learning platforms.

The County Executive Committee Member added that digital learning is cost effective thus once embraced will reduce textbooks budgetary allocation as all learnning resources are available online. Therefore, education will be accessible to all at affordable rates and will expose learners to different cultures hence broadening their perspectives on education and life in general.

While speaking in the same forum, KESSHA chairman has expressed the union’s gratitude for the shared strategic partnership with the county government which ensured needy students received both bursaries and scholarships.

Present in the two day conference which closed this evening bringing 300 attendees on board was TSC officials and the County director in education.

Makueni has inked a partnership deal with Text Book Centre to supply 1,191 ECDE centres with essential books and stationery, ensuring that children have access to quality learning materials from an early age.

The initiative targets 40,000 learners across the county.

The deal was signed by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr and Chetan Rughani, Director and COO of Text Book Centre in Wote on Friday.
