GOVERNOR MUTULA UNVEILS KEY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN KISAU/KITETA WARD

During a development tour of Kisau/Kiteta Ward on Thursday, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr unveiled a number of development projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. Key projects unveiled include:

1. Lung’u Primary School Borehole Water Project: This is expected to provide reliable access to clean water for 720 households in 6 villages within the ward.

2. Solarization and Distribution of Song’eni Water Project: set to ensure sustainable and efficient water distribution to 600 residents at lowered costs.

3. Song’eni Modern ECDE Classes

The governor also handed 12 hundred-seater tents and chairs to organized groups.These tents are intended to support income-generating activities, promoting economic empowerment and social inclusion within the community.

ROAD TO UNIVERSAL WATER ACCESS IN MAKUENI

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr commissions Lung’u Primary School borehole water project at the school grounds in Kiteta/Kisau ward. This project is part of the governor’s ambitious Last Mile Water Connectivity Program, aimed at ensuring reliable access to clean and safe water for all residents.

The solar-powered project will supply clean and safe water for domestic use to 720 households across six villages—Kithongo, Kitile, Itakani, Katitu, Kivani, and Kalimani. In addition to benefiting the local community, the project will provide a sustainable water source for Lung’u Primary and Secondary Schools, addressing long-standing water challenges in the area.

In attendance is Area MCA Darius Mainga and his Tulimani ward counterpart Kyalo Mumo.

ECDE KIDS A PRIORITY AS MAKUENI COUNTY UNVEILS FIVE NEW CLASSROOMS IN MTITO ANDEI WARD.

New infrastructure projects in Mtito Andei Ward are set to transform early childhood education and ease the burden on parents, thanks to the efforts of Makueni County leaders. The newly built ECDE classrooms will provide a safe, comfortable, and modern learning environment for young children, ensuring they get the best start in their education journey.

Makueni CECM for ICT, Education, and Internship Elizabeth Muli, alongside MCA Francis Mulwa, County Solicitor Jennifer Kyumwa, Governor’s Adviser Kasamba Kiilu, and Chief Officer for Planning Bonface Mutua, led the commissioning of these key projects.

✔ Inspection of Kwa Kwakawetu Drift – Assessing its role in improving road accessibility and flood control.

Speaking at the event, Elizabeth Muli emphasized the importance of proper nutrition in the first 5 years of a child’s life, linking it to early childhood development. “Investing in ECDE is not just about classrooms; good nutrition is key to a child’s cognitive and physical growth,” she stated.

OVER 2,000 RESIDENTS IN THANGE WARD TO BENEFIT AS NZOUNI BOREHOLE IS LAUNCHED.

Makueni County Secretary Justin Kyambi on Tuesday led a team of leaders in commissioning key projects in Thange Ward to enhance water access and early childhood education.

Among the projects launched was the Nzouni Borehole, equipped with solar-powered pumping, a water kiosk, and a 10,000-liter tank, benefiting over 2,000 residents, including Nzouni Primary School.

The leaders also opened Nzouni ECDE and Kithasyu ECDE, improving early childhood education facilities.

Kyambi urged residents to safeguard the projects, noting that vandalism, especially of water infrastructure, remains rampant. He emphasized the importance of community ownership to ensure long-term benefits.

Kyambi was accompanied by CECMs Elizabeth Muli, Sebastian Kyoni, Chief Officer Devolution, Daniel Ndolo, Governor’s Political Adviser Kasamba Kiilu, Thange MCA Erick Katumo, Kambu DCC Teresia Mburu, among other officials.

WATER, DEVOLUTION CECS LEAD IN PROJECTS COMMISSIONING IN IVINGONI/NZAMBANI WARD

County Executive Committee Members John Kieti (Water) and Nicholas Nzioka (Devolution) on Monday led in commissioning of various development projects in Ivingoni/Nzambani ward meant to improve quality of life for residents.

The two commissioned, Kikwasuni ECDE, Kwa Maundu borehole, Kwa Kalekye borehole and the ward administrator’s office.

The boreholes are part of the Last Mile Water Connectivity program spearhead by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, meant to ensure no one walks more than 2 kms to the nearest water point.

The two county executive committee members were accompanied by Chief Officers Irene makau (Education), Nicholis Mutua(Gender) and area MCA Harrison mutie.

MULIMA-NDUENI WATER PROJECT LAUNCHED

In Mbooni Ward, a high level team from the County Executive on Thursday officially commissioned the Mulima Ndueni Water Project.

The project will provide fresh water to over 8,000 residents, schools and health centers in the area.

The move will enable locals to access water from nearby points. CECM for Water, Eng. John Kieti led the team which comprised of Chief Officers, Felistus Mutune, Naomi Nthambi and Nicholis Mutua.

Area MCA Alex Mulemba also attended the function.

The team also

commissioned drainage structures along the Matundoni-Uvaani-Kithuku-Red Sea Road.

This initiative was undertaken to address long-standing challenges faced by road users, especially during the rainy seasons when floods make transport difficult.

Later, the team inspected the ongoing construction of a dormitory block at AIC Mukaatini Vocational Training Center.

When complete, the facility will provide accommodation for students, creating a conducive learning environment and increasing enrollment at the institution.

HUNDREDS OF KITHUNGO/KITUNDU RESIDENTS ACHIEVE FOOD SECURITY AND INCOME BOOST THROUGH CLIMATE-SMART FARMING INITIATIVE

Residents of Kithungo/Kitundu are reaping the benefits of food sufficiency and increased incomes thanks to Kathambalani irrigation scheme, a project supported by the county government’s innovative green roads water harvesting program.

The scheme utilizes water harvested from a road drift constructed across the Kathambalani stream, which captures substantial volumes of sand and underground water. This water is then channeled to irrigate farmlands, enabling year-round crop production.

During a routine inspection of the project on Wednesday, County Executive Committee Member for Water, Eng. John Kieti, announced plans to allocate funds in the upcoming financial year for the construction of a mega sump and distribution tank so as to reach more residents.

Area MCA Kisungi Katete, who accompanied Eng. Kieti during the inspection, praised the initiative for its positive impact on the community.

KITISE WATER AND IRRIGATION PROJECTS MAKE PROGRESS

A water and irrigation project in Kitise, currently 50% complete, is set to positively impact over 1,500 households in the area.

The initiative, which aims to provide clean domestic water, promote conservation agriculture, and enhance climate resilience, is making steady progress in improving the livelihoods of local residents.

Key components of the project include the construction of a 100m³ water sump, solar-powered systems to facilitate efficient water distribution to various points, and the installation of a 3.2 km pipeline leading to a booster station for sustained water supply.

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, who chairs the Emergency Sub-Committee within the cabinet, visited the site alongside a team of County Executive Committee Members (ECMs) and the area MCA Sebastian Muli to assess the project’s progress.

During the visit, Mulili reassured the community that the county is fully committed to enhancing water accessibility and sustainability, emphasizing the long-term benefits these projects will bring to local residents.

In addition to the water supply project, the team also visited the Kikome Irrigation Scheme Phase 3, which is designed to serve 63 households, each receiving one acre for agricultural use.

This phase of the project will involve the construction of a pipeline network covering 15 acres, the installation of infiltration galleries for the collection sump tank, and the desilting of the existing 100m³ concrete sump tank.

MAKUENI COUNTY GOVT. TO DISTRIBUTE WATER IN KIIMA KIU- KALANZONI WARD FROM 2 DAMS.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has promised Kiima Kiu-Kalanzoni Ward residents that the County government will distribute water to local residents from Katilini and Kilombo dams in the area.

The area has suffered prolonged drought, leading to scarcity of water.He spoke on Monday at Kyamuloi village when he handed over 6 tents and 600 chairs to organized groups in the area. The tents have a capacity of holding 100 people each.

Each group received 1 tent and 100 chairs through the Department of Gender, Children, Youth, Sports and Social Services.

Area MP Thaddeus Nzambia and MCAs led by Deputy Speaker, Francis Mulwa and area MCA, Justus Mwanzia attended the function.

WAUTU/KYANGAATI SAND DAM: TRANSFORMING LIVES WITH CLEAN WATER, CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE, AND CLIMATE RESILIENCE.

Wautu/Kyangaati sand dam in Ilima ward, Kaiti Sub-county, currently 80% complete, is being constructed across Wautu River and is set to transform the lives of the local community.

Once operational in a month, the project will provide clean water for domestic use to 250 households, nearby educational institutions, and Wautu Market. Additionally, it will support irrigation for the cultivation of 5,000 avocado trees, boosting household incomes through sustainable agriculture. As part of the project’s environmental impact, 400 riparian tree species will be planted to restore the land and promote conservation efforts.

This project is a collaborative effort between the Government of Makueni County and the World Bank, funded under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program.
