Traders tipped to make Millions from Devolution Conference

Traders in Makueni are readying themselves for the business whirlwind expected from the 7th national devolution conference to be staged in Wote, Makueni, in April.

The traders, drawn from several sectors of the economy such as Hotel industry, Transport, hawkers, garment traders among others were on Wednesday coached on how to reap maximum business opportunities from the event.

The induction conference for the traders held at Wote, and graced by Governor Kivutha Kibwana was sponsored by the county government in partnership with the Council of Governors (CoG).

At least 8,000 delegates are expected to attend the devolution conference, posing a huge business opportunity for local traders and even from neighboring counties.

Governor Kibwana said his administration is working with KeRRA and other stakeholders to make the event a success.

TRADE DEPARTMENT HOSTS MARKET COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS

On Thursday, the county government hosted a Market Governance Forum at Wote Green Park, bringing together market committee chairpersons from across the county to deliberate on issues affecting trading centers.

The forum, led by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., focused their discussions on improving market management, enhancing collaboration with the county government on sanitation and revenue collection, monitoring the progress of development projects and ensuring security in trading centers.

While addressing the meeting, Governor Kilonzo urged the market leaders to collaborate with the county government for seamless service delivery to the people of Makueni. “My government will accord you the ultimate support needed to spur economic growth in our trading centres,” stated Kilonzo

The meeting also saw participation from Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, County Secretary Dr. Justin Kyambi and a host of senior county officials, including CEC Members Nicholas Nzioka, Japheth Mang’oka and Damaris Kavoi, as well as Chief Officers Dr. Jossylyn Nzilani, Bonface Mutua, Felistus Mutune and Daudi Kyalo with Municipal managers from Wote and Emali/Sultan Hamud also attending the session.

This forum is part of an ongoing exercise by the Trade Department to formalize market committees and streamline operations across Makueni’s trading hubs.

Towards Livestock Feed Commercialization in Makueni.

Over 500 dairy farmers of Kitise Farmers Cooperative Society, who are also into large-scale production of hay have received a 4- wheel driven tractor that will boost pasture mechanized farm operations.
 
Previously, the farmers have been hiring tractor services at high cost rates to complement their existing farm equipment for production.
 
The donation is part of the livestock feed commercialization project which is being funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through Business Initiatives for Survival and Eradication of Poverty (BISEP) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development in Makueni.
 
According to Agriculture Executive Joyce Mutua, the program aims at increasing the feed resource base in Makueni through provision of farm equipment, distribution of pasture seeds and linkages to market. So far, close to 3000 farmers have benefitted from the initiative which is at the pilot phase.
 
Mutua spoke during the handing over of equipment ceremony on Monday at the Maps Office, and was flanked by officials from FAO and Agriculture and Livestock Chief officers Daniel Ndolo and Dr. Victoria Kyalo respectively.
 
Other farmer groups also benefited from the equipment donation.

TOWARDS A UNIVERSAL ELECTRICITY ACCESS IN MAKUENI

Makueni County is today launching its landmark Energy Policy, a framework guiding the realization of universal access to electricity and clean cooking technologies. The aim is to increase electricity coverage and access from the current 29 percent and 17 percent use of clean cooking solutions.

The launch is graced by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, Dan Wilcox– Economic Counsellor and Head of Prosperity and Climate at the British High Commission, representatives of the World Resources Institute, Strathmore University, Just Energy Transition Africa and UK-PACT

TOURISM DAY MARKED WITH SCENIC NATURE WALK IN MBOONI

Tourism opens doors to culture, adventure, and business, creating jobs and building friendships across communities. World Tourism Day, sanctioned by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), is celebrated each year to recognize tourism’s role in development and global unity.

In Makueni County, Deputy Governor Makueni-H.E Lucy Mulili led celebrations in style with a 10-kilometre nature walk that began at Kikima Town, snaked through Kivale Forest, camped at Mulima Dam, and climbed up to Mavindu Hill. The walk brought together hikers, hoteliers, tour guides, residents and partners in the tourism sector.

During the camping at Mulima Dam, Mulili urged residents to conserve the county’s natural gems, noting they hold potential to attract visitors and boost local trade. She further assured hundreds of participants that the county is prioritizing infrastructure and entrepreneurship capacity to grow tourism.

The event was graced by County Secretary Dr. Justin Kyambi, CECM Dr. Doc Sonia Nzilani Nzilani, Chief Officer Dr. Jossylyn Nzilani, Makueni Public Service Board CEO Redempta Kavindu, MCAs Alex Mulemba, Kyalo Mumo and Elizabeth Mutindi, hoteliers, revelers and community members.

Top relief to locals as Kiou Top Dispensery is commissioned

Celebratory mood has engulfed villages of Kiou Top, Kwa Katiku, Kiuwani, Yoani, Muambwani, Inyenyoni, Masive, Ndumbini and Kwa Mukuyu in Kasikeu, Kilome after H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr commissioned a new dispensary in the area.
While commissioning the facility, the governor acknowledged the existence of community Health workers promising to continue creating better working conditions for them.
He assured the community members that the urgency of health facilities being closer to the people to be core in his government.
