Top German Firm Ready to Partner with Makueni for Roads Constructions and Minerals Exploration

A leading Germany company specialized in roads construction, equipment and mineral extraction technologies has expressed its interest in partnering with Makueni County.

The German company is now among several international and local organizations that have shown interest in the unexplored mineral world of Makueni County.

During the Road Technology Days 2018 workshop which took place in Ludwigshafen, Germany, the company indicated it was ready to partner with Makueni County in developing and constructing low cost rural sector roads.

Makueni County ECM for Roads, Transport, Energy and Public works Eng. Sebastian Kyoni who is in Germany welcomed the move by Wirtgen Group GmbH to venture into the local road works and the mining sector.

“I have represented our case here very well and we are hopeful that the interest shown by the Wirtgen Group will be escalated to the next level. Some 4000 delegates are also attending this workshop,”Mr Kyoni said.

The company will as well assist in acquisition of equipment and technology transfer to the county roads team on low cost rural roads construction techniques through Panafrican Equipment Kenya Limited, its subsidiary in Kenya

Top county officials trained on servant leadership

Top county government officials have undergone a 2-day training on servant leadership organised by the county government in collaboration with Africa Servant Leadership Development Institute.
 
The training, at Wote, which closed its doors on Friday was geared towards inspiring and equipping the officials with servant leadership skills and creating a conducive climate in the work place and in the community of their service.
 
Deputy governor Adelina Mwau who attended the workshop and gave her key note remarks noted that the training offered the officials an opportunity to reflect on the values that each one needs to touch other people’s lives in workplaces and in the community at large.
 
“It is time for us to reflect what it means to serve in a way that we touch lives of other people. Let us reflect on the values that we need to be servant leaders,” Mwau said.
 
The DG further called for personal transformation as the starting point to servant leadership.
 
The training was tailored around themes of good governance, corruption, social responsibility, stewardship, leadership and integrity and core values of servant leadership.
 
Dr. Mulinge of ASLDI and a facilitator commended the good leadership exhibited by governor Kivutha Kibwana and her deputy and presented the DG with certificates of recognition of their exemplary servant leadership.

TOMATO VALUE-CHAIN TRAINING PROJECT IN MAKUENI COUNTY.

This initiative is geared towards enhancing agricultural practices, promoting the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and forming commercial groups to boost productivity, quality, and market access for tomato farmers.

The project also aims to contribute to economic growth and food security.

Addressing concerns about group activity and management, Chief Officer Livestock and Fisheries Japheth Kiminza reassured farmers that the Makueni government would collaborate closely with active members of commercial groups to ensure proper management.

Additionally, farmers were encouraged to join Saccos through which the government will provide access to credit,extension services and saving opportunities, further supporting their agricultural ventures.

TODAY, FARMERS FROM KATHONZWENI, MAVINDINI, AND MUVAU WARDS TOOK PART IN A FIELD DAY AT MUAMBA IKUNGU VILLAGE IN KATHONZWENI WARD, MAKUENI COUNTY.

Today, farmers from Kathonzweni, Mavindini, and Muvau wards took part in a field day at Muamba Ikungu village in Kathonzweni Ward, Makueni County.

The event, organized by the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KARLO) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), showcased new drought-resistant sorghum varieties: Smart, Ndume, and Jasiri.

These varieties are known for their high yields, nutritional benefits (rich in calcium and iron), and bird resistance, with potential yields of up to 18 bags per acre. This could generate Ksh. 105,000 per acre against a production cost of Ksh. 20,000 per acre.

Joyce Mutua, the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, praised the initiative for its potential to improve nutrition, food security and local livelihoods, assuring that certified seeds would be distributed by reputable institutions to farmers within the County.

The event also saw the attendance of Mary Muteti, Director of Agriculture, Dr. Patrick Ketiem from KARLO, and Dr. Chris Ojiewo from CIMMYT.

DR. VICTORIA KYALO, CHIEF OFFICER FOR AGRICULTURE, PARTICIPATED IN A TRAINING SESSION FOR FARMER SERVICE CENTRE (FSC).

Dr. Victoria Kyalo, Chief Officer for Agriculture, participated in a training session for Farmer Service Centre (FSC) providers at Kusyombunguo. Organized by the Makueni County Government and the World Food Program (WFP).

This event aims to enhance collaboration among agricultural stakeholders, including farmers, agro-input dealers, and marketers, focusing on value chains like mangoes, citrus, poultry, horticulture, aquaculture, and apiculture.

Dr. Kyalo emphasized the county’s dedication to supporting these stakeholders, ensuring that they can effectively assist farmers in improving production and market linkages. The session saw the first cohort of 25 FSC providers, with a second cohort of 28 set to join later in the week.

Later, Dr. Kyalo, alongside Chief Officer Livestock and Fisheries Japheth Kiminza, opened a report writing retreat for the National Agriculture Value Chain Development Program (NAVCDP) at Shushan Hotel Makindu.

Dr. Kyalo was accompanied by Director of Agriculture Mary Muteti among other officials.

Today, Christian Aid, Kenya and their implementing partners paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Governor of Makueni to discuss the progress of their ongoing projects within the county.

The participating partners included ADSE, CGA, and Kitise Rural Development. Key areas of current intervention encompass governance, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian response.

Thrilling Experience as Kilifi County Assembly Health Committee Benchmarks Makueni’s UHC

Makueni Health Chief Officer Dr. Stephen Ndolo on Thursday received a delegation from Kilifi County Assembly’s Health Committee who visited to benchmark on Universal Healthcare.
Among the areas of interest were operations at the Mother and Child Unit, physiotherapy Department, Makueni Brain Centre, CT-Scan Centre, oxygen plant, cancer screening and Treatment unit and the Universal Healthcare registration desk.
Edward ziro, a member of Kilifi County Assembly representing Mwana-mwinga ward and the chair in the health committee lauded Makueni for equity in access to healthcare services yet the locals are able to receive highest standard of curative, preventive and promotion healthcare.
Dr. Ndolo noted that the program has been so entrenched in the people who have seen its benefit adding that there has been a lot of demand for health services since the onset of the programme.
 
 

Thousands to benefit from Mwania water project

More than 5 villages, 3 public primary schools of Kathaayoni, Kwa Nzula, Mwania primary and Mwania dispensary in Kitise, Makueni sub county will benefit following the construction of a water pipeline, new water kiosks, storage tanks and installation of water pumping system from Mwania borehole.
The project done in partnership between Makueni and Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), a non governmental organisation for development and humanitarian aid is bound to advance the Governor’s agenda of ensuring water is brought closer to many households.
 
 

Thousands of eye patients targeted as Makindu free eye consultation, cataract surgery camp enters day two.

Makueni residents will enjoy free eye consultations and treatment for a week following governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr’s announcement on Monday at Makindu sub-County hospital where a free Surgical Eye Camp was launched.
Yesterday, 253 people were screened. Among those, 82 were diagnosed with cataracts, with 53 of them having cataract surgeries administered.
Cataract, mostly associated with old age, is a medical condition where the eye lens becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision or blindness.
“People have come out in large numbers. I am sure this life-changing camp will transform the health of those with vision problems. Our partners have also donated various equipment among them: autokeratometer, trial sets, operation beds, operation stools, readers, consumables, non-pharmaceutical commodities, eye drugs and others,” said Governor Mutula after launching the camp.
Mutula, who also commissioned Makindu Eye Clinic, advised those suffering from eye illnesses to take advantage of the camp as well as visit the new unit for check-ups and medication.
Governor Mutula’s move comes as a result of joint eye camp partnership between the county, AMA group, Kenya Society for the blind supported by Charity Vision and One sight and Fred Hollow Foundation-an Australian organization.
