Why H.E the Governor visited WHO HQs

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr accompanied by Health CECM Dr. Paul Musila last week held a series of health meetings at Geneva, the World Health Organization, (WHO), Headquarters, Switzerland, to discuss various public health issues including how to use innovation in scaling up access to quality care and training as one way of addressing health workforce shortage.
In one of the meetings with Peter Singer, a special advisor to WHO’s CEO, Dr. Tedros and Dr. Shannon Shibata-Germanos, founder of Lacuna advisors, and an investor in health-tech, biotech, and med-tech, they discussed on how to deal with Makueni’s rising community hypertension and how to use digital health systems such as proximie tech (where surgeons always have direct access to expertise remotely using cameras to help in doing surgeries) in efficient decentralised surgical clinical mentorship programs.
Makueni is currently using proximie tech during surgical procedures hence cutting cost, improving patients safety and doing various health sustainable practices ,all at once.
 

Governor Honours Makueni’s Vulueni student for emerging top in national Drama festival

May 24, 2023/ H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has today celebrated Oscar Brian, from Vulueni Secondary school for topping nationally during the concluded Kenya National Drama and Film Festival, 2023.
Through the CECM-ICT, Education and Internship, Elizabeth Muli, the Governor ensured Brian’s school fees is cleared following his triump where his spoken word performance “Number ya Mwisho” won first place in both regionals and nationals.
The delegation also brought a token of appreciation for the school and those who were involved in making the drama team’s success possible.
 

Uganda Benchmarks in Makueni

Uganda’s LDC-Led LIFE-AR initiative tasked with developing effective and long-term climate adaption interventions and delivering climate finance to local actors on Wednesday paid a courtesy call to H.E Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili during a benchmarking tour of the County.
The team led by Joseph Epitu, commissioner-water, and the Environment sector was taken through some of the interventions made by the county.
The county has set aside 2% of its development budget for climate financing as per the Makueni County Climate Change Act, 2022, and passed climate regulation, 2018, hence strengthening County Climate Change Fund (CCCF). Currently, the county is preparing to conduct a participatory Climate Risk Assessment (PCRA) so as to understand local climate risks and actions to build community resilience.
During their 2-day program, the delegates will have a field visit led by Dr. Sonia Nzilani, CECM, Land, Urban Planning & Development, Environment, and Climate Change to see how the county, partners have taken action in remediating climate change.
 
 
 
 

Towards Livestock Feed Commercialization in Makueni.

Over 500 dairy farmers of Kitise Farmers Cooperative Society, who are also into large-scale production of hay have received a 4- wheel driven tractor that will boost pasture mechanized farm operations.
 
Previously, the farmers have been hiring tractor services at high cost rates to complement their existing farm equipment for production.
 
The donation is part of the livestock feed commercialization project which is being funded by the Mastercard Foundation and implemented by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) through Business Initiatives for Survival and Eradication of Poverty (BISEP) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development in Makueni.
 
According to Agriculture Executive Joyce Mutua, the program aims at increasing the feed resource base in Makueni through provision of farm equipment, distribution of pasture seeds and linkages to market. So far, close to 3000 farmers have benefitted from the initiative which is at the pilot phase.
 
Mutua spoke during the handing over of equipment ceremony on Monday at the Maps Office, and was flanked by officials from FAO and Agriculture and Livestock Chief officers Daniel Ndolo and Dr. Victoria Kyalo respectively.
 
Other farmer groups also benefited from the equipment donation.

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday joined other Ukambani governors Julius Malombe (Kitui) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) for the 2nd Summit Meeting of South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) in Kitui County.
For Makueni through the body, the governors agreed to fast track the tarmacking of Emali-Ukia, Sultan-Kikoko, Kikima-Mbumbuni roads, completion of Konza Techno City, establishment of specialized units where Makueni will have a trauma centre and pursuing for at least 10% of Tourism proceeds of Tsavo national park to benefit Makueni people.
SEKEB will hold Stakeholders Forum in October, 2023, at Thwake Dam with the three governors expected to Strengthen their political bargain with the national government and speak in unison as Ukambani for the region’s economic growth and push for establishing aggregation Centres and Industrial Parks.
The bloc reported that Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) had assured commencement of construction of Katulani – Thwake dam up to Wote Town road.

National Mango Conference rekindles farmers’ hopes .

The three-day national mango conference came to an end on Thursday with thousands of farmers hoping to reap big from their mango farms and have their products be part of consignments to EU countries.
Today the delegates had a field visit to various mango farms, value-addition firms, and a tour of the Kalamba Fruit Processing Plant.
The climax of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Makueni Governor, H.E. Mutula Kilonzo Jr, and Cornelly Serem, Chairman, of the Agriculture, and Food Authority Board, for a stronger Kenyan mango industry and better markets.
 

 

MAKUENI MARKS WORLD HYPERTENSION DAY AT THANGE.

Makueni health services CECM Dr. Paul Musila has urged locals at Kinyambu,Thange ward to routinely monitor their blood pressure and engage in healthy lifestyle. 
 
Dr. Musila gave the comments while presiding on the World Hypertension Day celebrations at Kinyambu health center.
 
He warned that high blood pressure is a silent killer hence the signs and symptoms do not appear early.
 
He further, asked the health workers in the county to make schedule screening of locals at churches, village gatherings among other public places so as to track down those who need medical care.
 
While addressing locals during the same meeting, the head of non- communicable diseases in Makueni Dr. Joseph Mulei revealed that statistics made available showed that Thange ward was worst affected by non – communicable diseases while one in every four people across the County suffered from high blood pressure.
