Governor Mutula woos Kenyans living abroad to invest in Makueni

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Friday asked over 4 million Kenyans living, and working abroad to make Makueni their number one destination choice for lucrative investment opportunities.
The governor says many dreams harbored by diaspora Kenyans who went to work abroad, made money, and are now comfortably living off abroad should be realized in Makueni soil.
H.E the governor was speaking when he officiated the EireKenya Irish Village Ground-breaking event at Konza, Malili, Kilome Sub-County.
The construction of the first Makueni gated community homes by a group of Kenyans working in Ireland will sit on a 40-acre piece of land with a controlled development of villas, bungalows, and social amenities.
He assured that through his government he will ensure that it is possible to navigate all processes of acquiring property and development approvals in the County.
“The Department of Lands, Urban Planning and Development ensured that the development application for this particular project met all the conditions and the approval was done within a short time with the consent of the cabinet. We welcome any other investor to Makueni since all processes are done seamlessly,” the governor said
The Governor was accompanied by Lucy Mulili (Deputy Governor), MP Thaddeus Nzambia (Kilome), Amos Wachira (Chair-Eirekenya), and area MCA, among other leaders.
 

Partnership rekindles hope for locals

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and Eni Kenya Managing Director Enrico Tavolin on Thursday Commissioned Kwa Kathoka Community water project done as Corporate Social Responsibility by the energy company.
The project came as a result of a request by Governor Mutula to the energy company as part of his wide network of partnerships to support the Universal water agenda he committed to the people of Makueni.
The project will serve Kambi Mawe Primary School, Kambi Mawe Health Centre and Kwa-Kathoka Community

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday joined other Ukambani governors for the 2nd Summit Meeting of SEKEB in Kitui County.

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday joined other Ukambani governors Julius Malombe (Kitui) and Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) for the 2nd Summit Meeting of South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc (SEKEB) in Kitui County.
For Makueni through the body, the governors agreed to fast track the tarmacking of Emali-Ukia, Sultan-Kikoko, Kikima-Mbumbuni roads, completion of Konza Techno City, establishment of specialized units where Makueni will have a trauma centre and pursuing for at least 10% of Tourism proceeds of Tsavo national park to benefit Makueni people.
SEKEB will hold Stakeholders Forum in October, 2023, at Thwake Dam with the three governors expected to Strengthen their political bargain with the national government and speak in unison as Ukambani for the region’s economic growth and push for establishing aggregation Centres and Industrial Parks.
The bloc reported that Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) had assured commencement of construction of Katulani – Thwake dam up to Wote Town road.

County in collaboration with KCB Bank donates food stuffs to children homes

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili on Thursday led a food donation drive at Kikumini primary school small home, Salama Kenya Baptist children’s home and Tumbuni community centre for children with special needs as a way of supporting meal expenses of special needs children.
Mulili thanked the management of the institutions for creating a world of equal opportunities for children with intellectual impairment among other disabilities.
At Tumbuni, the school provides the children with education and trainings such as weaving based on the child’s aptitude, intelligence and the type and extend of their disability.
The food stuffs donated include: baking flour, cooking oil, maize flour, rice, and beans, thanks to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

Building Development Partnerships

On Monday, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili hosted a high powered delegation from Micro-Enterprise Support Programme (MESPT) led by Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Amukhoye who paid the DG a courtesy call in Wote.
Discussions centered on enhancing partnerships between Makueni and MESPT in several Agricultural value chains and enhancing food safety competitiveness of the county.
Some of the key partnership areas include:
Support to agriculture policy development; support to establish a veterinary and food safety mini laboratory; Development of the Agricultural Training Centre-Kwakathoka as an Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education Training (ATVET) Facility.
MESPT supports Green Employment in Agriculture and AgriFI Food Safety programmes in Makueni.

Governor Mutula Jnr. meets CoG

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr digs into co-operation between Counties and the national Government for better service delivery
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr who is also the Council of Governors (COG) Legal, Constitutional Affairs, and Intergovernmental Relations Committee chair on Friday chaired his first meeting at the COG Delta House offices in Nairobi.
The meeting discussions were centered on issues affecting County Governments, establishing frameworks that allow for consultations and also co-operation between counties and the national government.
After deliberations, the committee unanimously agreed on the following resolutions:
1. The committee to fast track the Intergovernmental Relations (AMENDMENT) BILL, 2021-a Bill for AN ACT of Parliament to amend the Intergovernmental Relations Act to streamline the procedure for the transfer and delegation of powers, functions, and competencies between the two levels of government and for connected purposes.
2. They will hold a consultative meeting with critical offices in January 2023, such as the ODPP to deliberate on the prosecution of cases emanating from County laws, the office of the Chief Justice to discuss on utilization of fines and fees emanating from County Laws, pay a courtesy call to the Speakers and leaders of the majority of both houses and with the Attorney General aiming at strengthening Intergovernmental relations between parliament and the County Governments as well as fast-track the enactment of the IGR (Amendment) Bill
The to-be January meeting also targets the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) to create a synergy between the 47 county assemblies and Executives.
3. The COG to support County Governments on the institutionalization of the office of the County Attorney.
The meeting was also attended by various County attorneys.

MAKUENI, USAID SIGN KSH.1BILLION JOINT WORK PLAN

Makueni county has inked a joint work plan worth KSh.1 Billion with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to stimulate the growth of the local economy for the 2022/23 financial year.

The partnership was signed by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and USAID Mission Director in Kenya David Gosney on Wednesday in Wote.

Some of the key activities identified for collaborative implementation are:

Provision of nutrition commodities to support treatment of moderate acute malnutrition for the under-fives and pregnant and lactating women , strengthening of Community Health Strategy using Community Health Volunteers (Heath and Nutrition); strengthening child protection committees and operationalization of Makueni Development and Rescue Centre, strengthening integrated GBV prevention and management ( Social Protection); and increase Public Participation on budgeting process as well as conduct civic education in the county ( public participation).

Others are promoting the development of cottage industries, supporting manufacturing-related innovations, promoting and registration of cooperative societies, strengthening institutional capacities in the cooperative movement (Trade and Cooperatives Development); launching tourism circuits in Makueni, documentation and digitization of indigenous knowledge (Tourism and cultural development); and  Crop, Livestock Pests and Disease Control and agricultural Extension Programme ( Agriculture).

Bill Gates visits healthcare workers in Makueni

Bill Gates the co-founder of Microsoft and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation visited Makueni County on a discovery trip to see the impact of Primary Health Care in the County.

Accompanied by Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Bill Gates visited the Kathonzweni Level 3 hospital where he met with medical staff and Community Health Volunteers and later toured the mother and Child Care unit at the Makueni County Referral Hospital.

Makueni County has enlisted a significant number of Community Health Volunteers who have contributed to better prenatal care and safer deliveries in the region.
The County health team presented some of the key steps taken to improve service delivery, monitor the purchase and distribution of health commodities as well as steps the County took to ensure the facilities remained open for immunizations even during the Covid -19 pandemic.
Governor Mutula lauded the County health workers for using data to manage health care and health commodities.
Further, the County has shortened access to medical facilities for the residents and introduced a system where health centers can re-invest the cash paid for services in running costs and improvements required.
