GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JR. CHAMPIONS ORAL HEALTH AT WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY EVENT IN MAKUENI.

Dental caries, commonly known as tooth decay, remains a pressing public health issue affecting many Kenyans.

Despite its significance, the consequences of neglecting dental health are often overlooked.

However, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. took a bold step on Thursday towards raising awareness during the World Oral Health Day celebrations held at Nduluku Primary School in Mbooni.

Governor Mutula stressed his unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of Makueni residents, emphasizing the key role oral health plays in overall health.

Further ,he noted that oral health is not only a reflection of an individual’s well-being but also directly impacts their quality of life.

In a press statement signed by Dr. Patrick Amoth, the Director-General of Health in the Ministry of Health, the objectives of the 2025 World Oral Health Day were include,raising public awareness about the importance of oral health, equipping individuals with the knowledge and tools to prevent oral diseases, promoting positive oral health behaviors, and highlighting the vital connection between good oral health and mental well-being.

Dr. Rebecca Kiptui read the official press statement elaborating on the day’s objectives.

The event also featured a general health medical camp, offering a variety of services to the community.

Among the distinguished attendees were County Commissioner Duncan Darusi, Area MCA Dennis Musyoka (Waia-Kako), and Nominated MCA Hon. Mutindi Kiio, Health services CECM Dr.Paul Musila and Devolution CECM Nicholas Nzioka.

Thereafter, the county governments will take the plan through approval process in the Cabinets and County Assemblies before sign-off. The approved plans will be adopted by the governors and the plans will be filed with the County Governments and the National Government.
Other leaders present include: Douglas Mbilu (speaker-Makueni County Assembly), various MCAs drawn from Makueni Machakos, and Kajiado lands committees.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JR. ATTENDS 66TH NATIONAL NURSES ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Thursday attended the 66th National Nurses Association International Annual Scientific Conference at Kenyatta University. The three-day event, themed “OUR NURSES, OUR FUTURE,” brought together nurses from all 47 counties to discuss the future of healthcare in Kenya.

The conference aims to provide a platform for nursing professionals to share experiences, address workforce challenges and explore ways to improve the quality of healthcare in the country.

In his speech, Governor Kilonzo emphasized the vital role of nurses in driving healthcare. He noted that Makueni County had introduced a nursing directorate to specifically address the concerns of nurses, ensuring better working conditions and services.

He further stated that Makueni has prioritised career growth of nurses by promoting a considerable number of nurses to higher grades.

The second day afternoon session was also attended by Vihiga Governor Dr. Wilberforce Otchilo, Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Waceke, various health officials and leaders from the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK)

“Look at various life-changing projects from water, roads among others so that after 4 years I can have an interview by the people based on the performance,” he said
Later he condoled with the family of the late Dorcus Kyande, 96, mother to Stephen Kivindu Kyande, former Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), commissioner, domestic tax, at her Wambuli home, within Tulimani ward.
Dorcus was eulogized as a dedicated farmer, clothed with strength and dignity till her demise.
The burial was also attended by various leaders among them Wiper party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JR. AND COUNTY COMMISSIONER HENRY WAFULA ON SUNDAY LED MAKUENI RESIDENTS IN CELEBRATING THE 61ST MASHUJAA DAY AT MATILIKU TOWN.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. and County Commissioner Henry Wafula on Sunday led Makueni residents in celebrating the 61st Mashujaa Day at Matiliku town.

During his address, Governor Mutula assured the public that no health facility in the county would close due to understaffing. He announced that the health department is working on a locum program to ensure that facilities run by a single healthcare worker remain operational when the staff member is on leave or attending other official duties.

The governor also revealed ongoing discussions with the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to secure sufficient medical supplies for the county, with a target of maintaining a fill rate above 80%. He confirmed that the drug stocking process for the second quarter is already underway, a move aimed at preventing stockouts in health facilities.

On water projects, Governor Mutula highlighted the implementation of key initiatives, including the AKWASH project, which extends to Kalawa, Athi-Tunguni, Mulima, and Ngosini earth dams. He further noted that through partnerships, the Miangeni irrigation scheme in Kalawa Ward is progressing, with the potential to increase water production by 5,000 cubic meters and expand irrigation by at least 500 acres upon completion.

The governor was also flanked by his deputy Lucy Mulili, Makueni MP Susan Kiamba, assembly speaker Douglas Mbilu,Area MCA Francis Mutuku and other county officials.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr: We will ensure enough budget for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in the next 2023/2024 Financial Year

Makueni Governor H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Thursday joined various stakeholders, public and community partners involved in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in marking this year’s World Aids Day at Wote, Makueni Sub-County.
With the theme, “Equalize”, the Governor underscored the need for increased knowledge of HIV and access to treatment with a call to ending stigma so as to allow people access services without fear.
“We have attained impressive results so far, 70% of Makuenians living with HIV are aware of their HIV status. Of those who know their status, 94% are on HIV treatment and 92% of those on treatment have achieved viral suppression. We can end stigma and allow those scared of accessing services to do so without fear of discrimination,” the Governor said.
The Governor called on the Department of Health to ensure funds are allocated in the next financial year for HIV/AIDS related services.

The COG Resource Mobilisation Committee took stock of the last one year successes, challenges and way forward in their engagement with the partners.

Governor Mutula called on the development partners to ensure equitable distribution of support to counties.

“Devolution was supposed to answer marginalization, therefore support to counties must answer that question.” He said.

This comes barely two weeks after Makueni held it’s 2nd Annual Development Partners Conference aligning to the Governors pillar of Strategic Partnerships.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Tuesday hosted Netherlands ambassador to Kenya Maarten Brouwer in Makueni for talks on possible areas of partnership. Talks centered on green energy investment, health promotion and agriculture. The two agreed to further the discussion so as to anchor any partnership in the County Integrated Development Plan (2023-2027). Makueni plans to tap Sh 38B from partners to bridge the financing gap in the CIDP.
