GOVERNOR MUTULA GRACES 1ST EDITION OF KITHUNGO/KITUNDU WARD SPORTS FESTIVAL

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Monday presided over the inaugural Kithungo/Kitundu Sports Festival at Kitundu Green Stadium, an event aimed at uniting the youth through sports while promoting talent, community cohesion, and sportsmanship.

The governor was accompanied by area MCA Hon. Kisungi wa Katete, Gender, Children, Youth, Sports, and Social Services CECM Eng. Sebastian Kyoni, Devolution CECM Nicholas Nzioka, other county officials, and distinguished guests.

Attendees were treated to an exciting lineup of sporting activities, including soccer, basketball, and athletics. In the soccer finals, Ngai FC emerged victorious after a dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout against Utangwa FC after a barren draw in the finals, with Kitundu FC securing third place after defeating Kithungo FC 2-0. In basketball, Kitundu dominated their opponents—Kyandote, Uma, and Utangwa—to claim the championship.

Governor Mutula condemned the ongoing abductions and disappearances of youth in the country. He urged the national government to take swift action and fulfill its duty of providing security to its people and ensuring the safety of our youth.

The festival highlighted the County government’s commitment to empowering young people and fostering community development through sports. Governor Mutula reiterated his administration’s dedication to creating safe spaces and opportunities for the youth to thrive.

GOVERNOR MUTULA FULFILLS PLEDGE TO KASUNGUNI PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KEE WARD

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has fulfilled a pledge he made on July 31 during his tour of Kee Ward by delivering 22 rolls of chain-link wire to Kasunguni Primary School.

The delivery was made today by CECM ICT, Education & Internship, Japheth Mang’oka, accompanied by Chief Officer Irene Makau. The school’s leadership and parents expressed their gratitude, saying the fencing materials will enhance security at the institution.

The departmental leadership also visited Kyanduya Vocational Training Centre, Kee VTC, and Mwea in Kee Ward, to monitor and evaluate development and learning at the institutions.

GOVERNOR MUTULA, FORMER PS EXPLORE NEW INVESTMENTS FOR MAKUENI

On Monday, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. hosted former Transport Principal Secretary Nduva Muli for a candid discussion on enhancing investment opportunities in Makueni, with the aim of boosting job creation and production.

A key highlight of the meeting was the identification of a strategic location within the county for the establishment of a plastic tanks manufacturing plant. The leaders agreed that the initiative would lower the cost of acquiring water storage tanks, promote rainwater harvesting, improve access to clean water, and create employment opportunities for young people.

Mr. Nduva, who is also a commercial mango farmer with an 8,000-tree plantation in Kibwezi, proposed a partnership with the County Government to build the capacity of local farmers in mango production, enhance value addition, and tap into export markets for better returns to farmers.

GOVERNOR MUTULA, FLLOCA TEAM REVIEW CLIMATE RESILIENCE PROJECTS, PLAN NEW INTERVENTIONS

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Monday hosted a high-powered delegation of national Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) officials and Danish Embassy representatives to assess the impact of climate resilience projects in Makueni.

The meeting also discussed plans for future interventions with a view to enhancing their design for higher community impact.

Governor Mutula acknowledged the massive impact the 12 projects implemented in the 2023/2024 Financial Year have had in improving water access, food security and livelihoods across Makueni. Governor Mutula praised FLLoCA’s community driven model of development, saying it has improved projects ownership.

The meeting was attended b by FLLoCA Program Coordinator Peter Odhengo, Embassy of Denmark representative Phillip Akello, Makueni Lands ECM Paul Musila, Education & ICT ECM Japheth Mang’oka and Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Muthoka.

Governor Mutula flags off Shs 90M Medical Supplies

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior and KEMSA Chief Executive Officer Terry Ramadhani on Monday flagged off Shs 90M worth of medical supplies for all 238 health facilities in Makueni.
The event took place at the Mother and Child Hospital, Wote, and was also graced by Senator Daniel Maanzo and Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili.
The supply is the Financial Year 2022/2023 quarter one order of health commodities and constitutes of essential and specialist drugs, non-pharmaceuticals and laboratory commodities.
Governor Mutula Jnr said the huge investment in healthcare is geared towards attaining the highest possible health standards in a manner responsive to the Makueni population needs.
The governor said his administration is committed to increasing efficiency in the management of the health commodity supply chain to ensure sustainability and resilience.
“To this end, we intend to enhance health commodity stock visibility through automating inventory management to achieve end-to-end visibility. This shall enable faster turnaround time for quantification, ordering and distribution of health products and technologies to ensure continuous availability,” he said.
To enhance efficiency and effectiveness in healthcare provision, the governor last month commissioned a unique model of operation dubbed Reverse Referral, which entails medical specialists going to the field to offer specialist services in remote facilities.
This, he said, will reduce the pressure at the county refferal hospital and the expenses incurred by residents travelling all the way to Wote.
 

GOVERNOR MUTULA FLAGS OFF NUTRITION SUPPLIES TO COMBAT MALNUTRITION IN MAKUENI.

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Tuesday flagged off 623 bales of fortified blended flour to benefit children, pregnant and lactating mothers, and adults battling malnutrition across the county’s six sub-counties, marking yet another milestone in the county’s quest for a well-nourished population.

Speaking during the flag-off on Tuesday, Governor Mutula underscored nutrition as a cornerstone of human capital development, emphasizing his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving health and nutrition outcomes for all residents.

To strengthen the county’s fight against malnutrition, Makueni has partnered with key organizations including Helen Keller International, Vitamin Angels, and ENI Kenya.

Helen Keller International has donated 800 cartons, each containing 150 sachets of Ready-to-Use Supplementary Feed (RUSF), targeting children aged 6 to 59 months suffering from moderate acute malnutrition.

The supplements will be distributed to 121 health facilities designated for managing acute malnutrition.

The organization has also provided weighing scales to aid in nutritional assessment.

ENI Kenya contributed over 28,000 sachets of fortified blended flour for children in the same age bracket and an additional 6,000 sachets for pregnant and lactating mothers.

The nutrition commodities have been delivered to 81 health facilities across all sub-counties, ensuring last-mile delivery and equitable access.

Meanwhile, Vitamin Angels has donated 200,000 doses of dewormers for school-going children, reinforcing efforts to improve child health and reduce nutrient loss caused by parasitic infections.

Governor Mutula flags off Makueni team to KYISA Games, Tharaka Nithi.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr today flagged off Makueni team to the eighth edition of Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games slated for next week in Tharaka Nithi.
While addressing the youngsters aged 18-23 years during the flagging off ceremony, the governor assured them of his support in nurturing talents and ensuring Makueni continues producing champions in sports.
The Executive for Gender, Children, Youth, sports and Social ,Services, Nicholas Nzioka, on his bid said he was very certain that they had a formidable team in the three disciplines of football, volleyball and basketball that will excel in the competition.
The KYISA games under theme, “Talanta Mashinani” kicks off on Monday and will be played in Kajiunduthi stadium, Kairuni, Kibugua, and Chuka University, Chuka Girls’ High School and Chuka Boys’ High School.
The ceremony was attended by CECMs-Japheth Musyoka Mang’oka (Devolution, Public Service, Public Participation & Special Programmes), Peter Mumo Nyamai (Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture & Tourism, Irene Makau (CO Devolution), Stephen Ndolo (Health), Catherine Syombua (C.O gender & sports), MCAs Felix Mateso (Wote/Nziu) and Elizebeth Muthike Muli (Nominated).

GOVERNOR MUTULA FLAGS OFF COFFEE SEEDLINGS TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO FARMERS IN MAKUENI COUNTY.

Makueni County has released 8,000 coffee seedlings to be distributed to farmers for planting this rainy season. Another 16,000 seedlings will be released to farmers from next week.

Flagging off the consignment to be distributed to co-operative societies in Kikima, Mbooni Sub -County, Kithangathini in Kaiti, Masokani and Kithumani in Makueni Sub County, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. urged more farmers to consider planting coffee as prices world were going up. Makueni is one of the 33 counties that produce coffee.

He said the County planned to support farmers by training them on all aspects of coffee production including milling to increase its coffee production by 2.5 metric tonnes in the next two years.

Governor Kilonzo also directed the Department of Agriculture to establish demonstration farms in areas where there are coffee factories to train farmers on modern ways of farming. Currently, there are 20,000 registered coffee farmers in the county.

He said the County was working closely with the National Cereals and Produce Board to ensure that coffee farmers are provided with subsidized fertilizer.

The event held at the County headquarters was attended by Deputy Governor, Lucy Mulili and Agriculture ECM, Joyce Mutua among others.

Governor Mutula fetes 2023 Makueni’s finest sportsmen and women

A huge contingent of players from Makueni who excelled in various sports disciplines such as special Olympic games, beach handball, handball, cycling, and football in 2023 across the world on Thursday were feted by H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.
A number of players from Makueni scooped gold medals during the concluded special Olympic games, Berlin, Germany while others participated in beach handball (Tunisia), Handball under20 (Tanzania), and athletics under20 coming home with gold medal in 10,000 metres race and silver in 1,500 metres.
The governor has assured that he will continue supporting sporting activities in the county with a promise of improving Ngakaa talent centre in Makindu and other centres where players have been training.

GOVERNOR MUTULA DONATES LAND FOR CONSTRUCTION OF MODERN HOSPITAL

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. has donated land for the construction of a modern maternity hospital in Utangwa as part of the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services.

He also formally handed over a title deed for the Utangwa Police Station and announced plans to install high-mast floodlights in the area to improve security.

Governor Mutula made the announcements while addressing residents at Utangwa Catholic Parish during a fundraising event, where he was accompanied by Mbooni Member of Parliament, Nzioka Kivasu.

The governor urged Kenyans to register as voters expressing concern over the low voter registration turnout.

Mutula, who is the Vice Chairperson of the Wiper Patriotic Front, assured all prospective aspirants of a transparent nomination process.
