In PICTURES: A 3D architectural impression of the proposed Mukuyuni modern mixed use market set to accommodate over 150 traders in the town.

The proposed market, to be implemented by Wote Municipality, will be funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Programme. 
 
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior and Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili on Friday received the proposed market design for review during a series of other development meetings at the Council of Governors offices in Nairobi.
 
 
The market design has provision for two floors, a cold room, an hybrid solar system, stalls and shops, a drive-through for road users as well as solid waste management. It will also have solar lighting and a 30,000-liters rain water harvesting tank.
 

Makueni County FY 2021-2022 Q1 Budget Implementation Report

The Budget implementation report highlights progress made in implementation of the Makueni County Government for quarter one of the Financial Year 2021/22, ending 30th September 2021.It also presents the key challenges that faced budget implementation during the reporting period and appropriate recommendations to overcome these challenges.
The FY 2021/22 budget is geared towards stimulating the growth of the local economy after the negative effects of COVID 19 pandemic. The budget theme for the year is “enhancing community driven development for enhanced prosperity” and is guided by seven principles; Equity in development, completion of all ongoing projects; community-led development; community volunteerism in development (Mwethya wa Maendeeyo); livelihood/employment guarantee scheme,.
The County Government budget for FY 2021/22 is 9,763,795,153.00 with Kshs 6,744,801,648.04 (69%) directed towards recurrent budget and Kshs 3,018,993,504.96 (31%) directed towards development budget.
By end of the Quarter one of FY 2021/22, the total revenue receipts amounted to Kshs. 1,723,856,308.57 representing 18 per cent against of the total revenues of the Financial Year. The County had received 17 per cent of the Equitable share, 31 per cent of the loans and grants and mobilized 22 percent of the own source revenues. Noi funding for conditional allocations have been received in that quarter.
The overall County Expenditure for the period ending 30th September 2021 amounted to Ksh. 701,852,186.10 translating to an overall absorption of 7 per cent.

The Budget implementation report highlights progress made in implementation of the Makueni County Government Budget for the Financial Year 2021/2022, for the period ending 31st December 2021. It also presents the key challenges that faced budget implementation during the reporting period and appropriate recommendations to overcome these challenges.
The FY 2021/22 budget is the third to implement the CIDP 2018-22 and is anchored on the County Government agenda of socio economic transformation with a broad focus on community economic empowerment for increased household income.
In the first half of the Financial Year, the county has managed to mobilise revenues amounting to Kshs 3,903,809,764.39 representing 39 percent of the total budgeted revenues for the Year. The County had received 42% of the Equitable share, 35% of loans and grants and mobilized 28% of the targeted own source revenues.
The overall county expenditure for the period amounts to Kshs. 3,060,897,837.50 against a Revised Budget of Kshs 11,251,039,704.02 representing an absorption rate of 27 percent. The recurrent expenditures were kshs 2,532,673,766.65 against a revised budget of Kshs 6,979,637,023.54 which translated to an absorption rate of 36 per cent whereas the development expenditure amounts to Kshs 528,224,070.85 against a revised budget of Kshs 4,271,402,680.48 representing an absorption rate of 12 percent.

Wote Municipality Eyes Massive Investments From SUED Partnership

Wote Municipality is poised for major investment attractions thanks to a partnership with United Kingdom’s sponsored Sustainable Urban Economic Development Programme (SUED).

The Municipality is among 12 others in the country selected through competitive bidding to take part in the 6-year initiative.

The programme entails supporting the 12 municipalities to develop bankable urban investments, improving urban economic planning and business environment reforms through public-private partnerships.

On Friday, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Wote Municipality Board members held a sequel briefing meeting with SUED implementation team and representatives of the British High Commission at the Council of Governors offices, Nairobi, to finalize the development plan for Wote Municipality.

Agro-processing, trade and investments, fruit processing, waste management among others are some of the partnership areas of interest identified.

On 7th September 2022, Governor Kilonzo Jnr signed the transfer of several functions and attendant resources from county departments to the municipality giving it the required impetus for enhanced growth.

‘Ni Wakati wa Kazi’, Governor, Deputy Governor tell Administrators

Governor H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jr has warned the County Administration against continued politicking, calling them to go back to work to deliver quality services to Wananchi.

 

Speaking during a familiarization meeting with sub-county, ward and sub-ward administrators in Wote on Tuesday, Kilonzo Jr said he was not interested in knowing who supported or opposed his gubernatorial bid but rather focused on delivering his vision to the people of Makueni.

 

Further, the governor committed to re-engineer public service in Makueni to make it more efficient and effective by cutting down unnecessary bureaucracy which has slowed down the delivery of government services.

 

Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili who also addressed the administrators challenged them to work with all elected leaders and the National Government Administration Officers to create synergy in service delivery.

Mulili reiterated on the need to build a cohesive administration that integrates all positive thoughts into deliverables. She said her wish is to oversee a government that implements projects to full completion so that residents can realise value for their money.

HAPA KAZI TU!

Wote Municipality is set for exponential growth with more devolved functions and resources to offer services.

 

In an introductory meeting between the Municipality Board and the new Governor H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, Monday, a consensus was reached to transfer all the necessary functions from the County Government to the Municipality and the requisite resources to follow those functions.

 

Gazettement of the functions to be transferred to the Municipality is expected to be done within this month.

 

Governor Kilonzo Junior also met officials from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for a planning meeting on Digital Land Governance Programme.

The programme, funded by European Union and FAO is geared towards improved food and nutrition security, livelihoods and sustainable development through equitable and secure access and management of land.

This will be achieved through:

  1. Enhanced efficient and effective land governance through the digitization and digitalization of land records and processes.
  2. Improved conflicts and disputes resolution mechanisms on land and natural resources.
  3. Improved and inclusive policy, legal and institutional frameworks

Cabinet Approves Annual Development Plan, Payment of Authenticated Pending Bills

In his first week in office, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has chaired three Cabinet meetings and approved several plans to steer Makueni County into higher development heights.

 

The plans include:

1. The Makueni Annual Development Plan 2023/2024;

2. 2023/2024 Budget Cycle Plan;

3. Makueni County Valuation Roll. To be presented to the assembly for approval when it begins sittings;

4. Own Source Revenue growth plan, with a target of more than a Billion;

Kilonzo Junior has assured suppliers that his administration will clear all pending bills, amounting to about Sh 700M, once they are audited and authenticated.

History in the Making

A journey that slowly began in 2013 through a senatorial by-election following the passing on of pioneer Senator Mutula Kilonzo Snr has today blossomed into the most coveted county job.

H.E Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has taken over the mantle of leadership as the second governor of the great county of Makueni. H.E Lucy Mulili was also inaugurated as the second deputy governor.

“This is a momentous journey that began in 2013 when I accidentally ventured into politics after the death of my father. Since then, the people of Makueni have walked all the way with me, first as senator for two terms and now as governor,” said the new county boss.

Accompanied by family, relatives, friends and thousands of residents, Kilonzo Jnr was sworn in at Unoa grounds Wote in a ceremony presided over by Hon. Justice Robert Limo.

The event was also graced by Wiper Party Leader H.E Kalonzo Musyoka , outgoing governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Senator-Elect Daniel Maanzo, County MP-Elect Rose Museo, Makueni MP-Elect Suzanne Kiamba, outgoing Makueni Assembly Speaker Hon. Douglas Mbilu, members of the county assembly elect, among other leaders.

 

Swearing in of Makueni County Governor-elect and the Deputy Governor-elect

This is to notify the public that pursuant to the Assumption of Office of Governor Act 2019, the inauguration and swearing in ceremony of the Makueni County Governor-elect H.E Mutula Kilonzo CBS and the Deputy Governor-elect H.E Lucy Mulili, will be held on Thursday 25th August 2022 from 10:00am at the Unoa Grounds, Wote Town. Guests and members of the public are requested to be seated by 9:30am.

Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA)- 7th Edition, 2022

Kajiado County is the proud host of the 7th Edition of Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) games at Ongata Rongai.

The games were officially launched by H.E Martin Moshisho, the Deputy Governor – Kajiado County, and will run from 9th to 17th April, 2022 at the Nekeel Stadium, Nekeel Boys School and Laiser Hill Academy Grounds.

KYISA games were last held in 2019 with Busia as the host, before being interrupted by the infamous Covid-19 pandemic.

Youths aged between 18-23 from across the 47 counties will be competing in three disciplines;

  • Soccer,
  • Volleyball and
  • Basketball

Makueni County will be represented in all the disciplines.
