A partnership between Makueni and The World Agroforestry (ICRAF) yields big for locals in the semi-arid areas of Mbooni East, and Kibwezi sub-counties as governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr receives and immediately flags off several water tanks, solar water pump, dam liners, shed nets, potting tubes, assorted high-value tree species and scions, slope boards, spirit levels, and nylon twines, together with tree nursery tools and equipment.
The governor has assured his commitment to addressing water problems which is his top agenda for the people of Makueni

Strengthening devolution

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili accompanied by CECM Devolution Japheth Mang’oka, Irene Makau (Chief officer Devolution and Public Participation) and Civic Education Officers today held talks with Africa’s Voices Foundation(AVF) team led by Damaris Ndegwa, Director of Business Operations,
to explore strategic areas of partnership on strengthening citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Makueni County Prepares for the Roll Out of Indigenous Knowledge Documentation and Digitization Project.

A delegation from the State Department of Culture and Heritage, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage led by Dr. Evans Taracha, the National Coordinator of the Natural Products Industry (NPI) Initiative and leader of the indigenous knowledge documentation and digitization project, met with the Makueni County project implementation team led by Peter Mumo Nyamai, the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industry, Marketing, Culture and Tourism, to plan for the roll out of the project.
The overall goal of the project is to advance protection, promotion and valorization (value addition) of Kenya’s indigenous knowledge and associated assets. The project will support the County government in meeting its obligations in the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions Act, 2016 by setting up the County digital repository of traditional knowledge and cultural expressions and associated ICT equipment and building capacity of the County government in the documentation and digitization of indigenous knowledge.
The pilot project that is implemented in Makueni County under the Department of Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and Tourism is spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage through the Natural Products Industry (NPI) Initiative, a Kenya Vision 2030 flagship project. It is envisaged that the project will stimulate a new growth area of the economy that harnesses indigenous knowledge and associated assets.

Take advantage of ongoing rains, plant trees, DG Mulili urges.

Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili has called on the locals to plant trees in huge numbers during this rainy season so as to increase forest cover.
Mulili who led the area community in planting over 4000 trees at Kenze forest, Kilome, on Wednesday termed deforestation as one of the main reasons the world is experiencing erratic climate and
catastrophic global warming effects.

Let’s uphold peace for development, DG Mulili urges

H.E Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili on Saturday attended wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Nziu at Sultan-Hamud Catholic Church, Kilome Sub-County where she urged locals from the cosmopolitan town to always uphold peace in order to promote development.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by Irene Makau (Devolution Chief Officer), Kavai Nzai (MCA Kasikeu ward), among others local leaders.
 

Joy as governor launches NCPB satellite depots.

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday launched Mukuyuni and Kikima NCPB satellite depots for the last mile delivery of subsidized fertilizer bringing the commodity closer to farmers.
Initially farmers used to get subsidized fertilizers from the three NCPB main depots located at Wote, Emali and Kibwezi Town.
“We will ensure that these depots are opened as early as 7a.m so that farmers can be supplied with fertilizer”, the governor said in Kikima.
128,410 out of 193, 384 farmers registered for the fertilizer subsidy Programme in the County will benefit and make the county food secure.
The Governor was accompanied by NCPB Managing Director Mr. Joseph Kimote , Kaburu Kaimba (county commissioner), CECMs: Japheth Mang’oka (Devolution), Joyce Mutua (Agriculture).
 
 

Reprieve as accident response vehicle for Mombasa-Nairobi highway, Makueni stretch is received

Road crash victims between Mtito-Andei and Malili have better chance of recovery, and even avoiding death since they will be receiving quick medical treatment at the scene of an injury before quickly getting rushed to hospital as H.E governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr receives a road Traffic Accident Response vehicle for the section.
The vehicle came as a result of partnership between the County and Polish Aid.
It will be stationed at Makindu Fire Station, a central place for responding to accidents and will be able to reduce the severity of injuries suffered.
The vehicle is fitted with 2 hydraulic pumps, a hydraulic cutter, a ram and spreader, trauma bags, extension ladders, and a stretcher. All firefighters who are to operate the vehicle have been trained in basic life support and road traffic accident techniques.
