MATILIKU SUB COUNTY HOSPITAL RECEIVES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT.

The County Government of Makueni has stepped up efforts to

strengthen healthcare services and improve access to quality medical care for residents by providing medical equipment to Matiliku Sub County Hospital in Nzaui/Kilili/Kalamba Ward.

The hospital on Wednesday received theatre and patient-care equipment aimed at enhancing surgical services, emergency response, and overall patient safety within the facility.

The equipment includes an operating theatre table, theatre lights, an anesthesia machine, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, an electro-surgical machine, a suction bed, and patient monitors.

The County Government under Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. is committed to equipping health facilities, expanding access to specialized healthcare services, and ensuring residents receive timely, safe, and quality treatment closer to home.

With the provision of the equipment, medical personnel at the facility say it is now better positioned to handle surgical procedures efficiently.

YOUTHS IN IVINGONI NZAMBANI BENEFIT FROM SOFT SKILLS TRAINING

More than 300 youths from Ivingoni Nzambani Ward have benefited from a soft skills training program organized by the Government of Makueni County through the Department of Gender, Children, Youth, Sports and Social Services.

The training focused on employability skills, youth employment opportunities, mental health awareness and drug and substance abuse prevention.

Speaking during the session, Chief Officer for Gender and Youth Nicholas Mutua said the initiative comes at a critical time when many young people are facing unemployment challenges across the country. He noted that equipping youths with soft skills is key in improving their confidence, communication abilities and readiness for the job market.

Mutua also warned the youths against drug and substance abuse, describing it as one of the major obstacles preventing many young people from achieving their goals and securing a brighter future.

MAKUENI SAND AUTHORITY PLANTS 2,000 TREES TO BOOST CLIMATE RESILIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION.

The Makueni County Sand Conservation and Utilization Authority on Tuesday led a major tree planting exercise along Masaani River in Ukia Sub-ward, where more than 2,000 trees were planted to restore the river ecosystem and strengthen climate resilience.

The initiative brought together local residents and county officials in efforts aimed at reducing soil erosion, improving water retention, protecting sand harvesting areas and enhancing environmental sustainability.

Speaking during the exercise, Managing Director Ndambuki Kioko said the programme forms part of the County Government’s broader climate change resilience-building efforts through sustainable natural resource management and ecosystem restoration.

MAKUENI HANDS OVER KITISE WATER PROJECT FOR COMPLETION

The County Government of Makueni on Monday officially handed over the Kitise Water Project to a contractor tasked with completing key works, including the construction of a 5.6-kilometre return line, solarization of the treatment plant, and grid connection at the source, among other components.

Once completed, the project is expected to benefit more than 11,000 residents, institutions, and water kiosks in the area.

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, who led a county delegation on an inspection tour of the project site, underscored the persistent challenge of water scarcity in arid and semi-arid areas, noting that women bear the greatest burden in searching for water.

She reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to ensuring that the distance between homesteads and water sources is reduced to less than two kilometres.

Mulili also urged the local water management committee to uphold accountability and embrace public participation in discussions surrounding the management of the project.

She described water projects in the county as strategic assets that must be protected from recurring vandalism and called on residents to act as watchdogs in safeguarding the infrastructure.

Among those who accompanied the Deputy Governor were CECMs Japheth Mang’oka(water), Nicholas Nzioka(Devolution ) Damaris Kavoi,(Finance) and area MCA Sebastian Muli, among other county officials.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO Jr. REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO WATER AND IRRIGATION

H.E. Mutula Kilonzo Jr. joined the faithful of Kiuuku AIC in Kitise/Kithuki Ward for a church service, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to water development and the expansion of irrigation projects across the county.

During the service, the Governor announced plans for a meet the people and development tour of the ward to commission completed projects . He highlighted the ongoing KSh60 million water project covering 42 acres along the Londokwe River at the border of the Kitise and Kithuki sub-wards.

Phase One of the project is expected to be completed by mid-June, while Phase Two is scheduled to begin at the start of the new financial year. Once complete, the project is expected to benefit residents of Munathi, Muambani, Matheani, Mayuu, and Kimundi areas.

The service was attended by Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, Clerk Kevin Mutuku, and several MCAs.

The occasion also saw 90 faithful, including Clerk Kevin Mutuku, graduate to various church ranks.

WOTE MUNICIPAL BOARD INDUCTION

Today, 22/05/26, the Deputy Governor and the county leadership team joined the Wote Municipal Board members and the Municipality Manager during the final day of the Governance and Leadership Induction Programme held from 19th to 22nd May 2026. The engagement reaffirmed the County Government of Makueni’s commitment to strengthening municipal governance, institutional coordination, and effective service delivery within Wote Municipality.

The programme brought together key county leadership including the County Secretary, the County Attorney, the CECM for Lands, Urban Planning and Development, and a representative from the Council of Governors (CoG), who emphasized the importance of accountable and strategic urban governance in driving sustainable urban development.

Through the induction, Board members were equipped with knowledge and skills in areas such as urban governance, strategic oversight, public finance management, procurement, human capital management, accountability, integrity, risk management, and effective communication in public service.

The sessions also provided an opportunity for the Board and municipal leadership to align on priorities and build a shared vision for the growth and transformation of Wote Municipality.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. concludes his “Meet the People” and development tour in Thange Ward with the commissioning of the Thange Water Project and the issuance of seats to 42 local groups.The tour aimed at strengthening service delivery, enhancing accountability, and engaging residents directly on development priorities across the ward.

During inspections of ongoing and completed projects, county leaders emphasized that development remains a continuous process focused on improving the livelihoods of residents.

Public barazas held at Kyaani and Thange trading centres gave residents an opportunity to air their concerns, share development proposals, and participate in shaping the county’s agenda.

The event brought together top county leaders, including Senator Daniel Maanzo, County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu, Clerk Kevin Mutuku, County Executive Committee Members (ECMs), and several serving and former Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

The event brought together the Makueni leadership team, including Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, Senator Daniel Maanzo, Speaker Douglas Mbilu, Clerk Kevin Mutuku, County Executive Committee Members (ECMs), and several sitting and former MCAs.

The Governor is currently on a “Meet the People” development tour in the ward, engaging residents and inspecting ongoing development projects aimed at improving service delivery and community welfare.

MAKUENI BETS ON SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TO ATTRACT GLOBAL INVESTORS AT KONZA.

Makueni County is steadily positioning itself as a model for inclusive economic transformation through strategic partnerships aimed at boosting investment, industrial growth and job creation.

On Wednesday, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili paid a courtesy call on a global fashion brand investing with Konza Technopolis as part of efforts to strengthen the county’s investor-friendly agenda.

The high-level stakeholder engagement also brought together private sector players in a renewed push to unlock employment opportunities, skills development and industrial expansion.

Mulili said the county government is intensifying collaboration with investors establishing operations at the innovation hub to ensure residents of Makueni benefit from the emerging opportunities.

Among the investors is global fashion brand Lucky DJ X, whose products are marketed across America and Europe. The company is currently onboarding local residents in tailoring, ironing, fashion design, warehousing and store management, creating fresh employment opportunities for youth in the county.

In addition, a Chinese investor setting up a packaging manufacturing industry at Konza is seeking local labour, further reinforcing Makueni’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for investment and industrial expansion.

The engagements come at a time when Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.’s administration is scaling up investment in technical skills development to ensure local residents are adequately prepared to benefit from emerging opportunities.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO Jr. SWORN IN AS MEMBER OF KENYA LAW REFORM COMMISSION

H.E. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., who also serves as the Vice Chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG) Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee, was on Wednesday sworn in as a Member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC). His appointment followed his nomination by the Council of Governors and subsequent gazettement by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor through Gazette Notice No. 5589 dated 17 April 2026.

Governor Mutula was sworn in alongside Ms. Annette Imbuhila Wangia and will serve a five-year term on the Commission.

The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Chief Justice Martha Koome, who congratulated the Commissioners on their appointment and underscored the importance of fully realizing the aspirations and objectives of the 2010 Constitution for the benefit of all Kenyans.

His appointment is expected to significantly contribute to the advancement of legal reforms that support effective devolution, social equity, and justice for all.
