Governor Mutula hosts top leaders as Wote Diocese gets a bishop

The ceremony for the installation of R.T Rev. Paul Kariuki as the first Bishop of the newly created Wote diocese at Unoa grounds presided over by H.E Hubertus Van Megen, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan is currently underway.
The event is attended by thousands of Catholic faithfuls with Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr hosting various top leaders among them: Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper party leader), Cecily Mbarire (Embu Governor), wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) , Julius Malombe (Kitui), Terry Mbaika( Devolution PS), Philomena Mwilu (Deputy Chief Justice), Eugene Wamalwa, a number of Deputy Governors, MPs among others.

Governor Mutula receives Wote diocese new bishop ahead of Saturday installation ceremony

The journey to the installation of Bishop Paul Kariuki Njiru, the bishop designated for the newly created Diocese of Wote started in earnest on Friday in a special ceremony at Kola Catholic Church grounds, on the border of Machakos and Makueni Counties.
The bishop was handed over from the Diocese of Machakos by Bishop Norman King’oo accompanied by Francis Mwangangi (Deputy Governor) to Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. at Kola Township which bestrides Machakos and Makueni counties.
Addressing hundreds of Catholic members, Governor Mutula said history had been made adding that the new bishop stands a better chance of bringing together the greater eastern communities.
The installation of Bishop Kariuki tomorrow follows the creation of the Diocese of Wote which Pope Francis announced in July.
Other leaders who attended the ceremony include Terry Mbaika (PS Devolution), Francis Mwangangi (Machakos Deputy Governor), Susan Kiamba (Makueni MP), Doughlas Mbilu (Makueni speaker), Andrew Mulwa (CEO KEMSA), Fred Muteti (Chair Special Economic Zones), among others.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr has called upon the county government staff to double their efforts to ensure efficient and effective service delivery to the people of Makueni.

Mutula told his staff that servant leadership was an important virtue that they needed to cultivate and asked them to be their own supervisors and report to work consistently.


Governor Mutula addressed the staff on Tuesday when he officially released the results for Performance Contracting for the 2022/2023 financial year at the Green Park in Wote.
The Governor further congratulated the Department of Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development and the Makueni County Fruit Development and Processing Plant for being ranked the best in the County Departments and Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) respectively.


All the county staff are committed to performance contracting, an initiative by the government to ensure efficient service delivery to the citizens.
Besides the trophies and awards given to different departments and agencies, Mutula was keen to observe that the citizens’ satisfaction is the best performance indicator.
Other departments ranked include Infrastructure and Devolution. Wote Water and Sewerage Company (WOWASCO) and Makueni Sand Conservation and Utilization Authority were ranked the second and third best in the category of SAGAs.

SENSITIZATION AND ONBOARDING OF WOTE TOWN VENDORS TO SOKO MAKUENI.

In a recent online development, the County Directorates of Marketing and Trade Development and ICT conducted an intensive training program for traders in the use of Soko Makueni E-Portal platform. The purpose of this initiative was to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and utilize the platform effectively.

During the training sessions, participants were introduced to the various features and functionalities of the E-Portal platform, including user registration, account management, and how to access and utilize the available resources and services.


Speaking during the launch of the training, CECM Trade Eng. Peter Nyamai encouraged traders to embrace digital technology in vision of growing their businesses beyond their trading areas.


Special emphasis was placed on security measures to ensure the protection of user data and privacy. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing increased confidence in using the E-Portal for their daily tasks. The training is seen as a crucial step in promoting a seamless and efficient digital experience for all users. The Department of Trade and Marketing behind the E-Portal platform has plans to continue offering regular training sessions to ensure that users remain well-versed in its capabilities and to foster a digitally literate trading community.

37 Water Projects Commissioned to Ease Water Access

The Department of Water and Sanitation on September 22, 2023 commissioned 37 complete water projects to bring quality potable water closer to the people.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr dispatched his entire cabinet to commission the projects in all the six sub-counties, in a move aimed at reducing the distance residents walk to available water sources to less than two kms from their homes.

The commissioned projects are among 54 completed within the first year of Governor Mutula’s administration in 2022-2023 Financial Year.

The governor who visited the family on Friday evening at their Kasikeu home prayed for the repose of the soul of the departed and comfort for the loved ones that mourn.
She will be laid to rest tomorrow, Saturday September 23, 2023.

Move to higher grounds, avert El Nino related disasters, Governor Mutula warns Makueni locals

Makueni County in collaboration with the Kenya Redcross Society conducted an Aqua Rescue Training targeted to Makueni County Fire Brigade and KRCS First responders to enhance their effectiveness in responding to water related emergencies and disasters in preparation to the anticipated El Nno rainfall likely to occur between October and December this year.
The training was conducted by trainers (with technical support from the professional consultant divers ) from the Kenya Redcross Disaster Operations Center
After completing the two days training the team was awarded certificates by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. together with the regional Manager, Eastern KRCS.
He asked those from risky areas like lowlands, and areas previously affected by landslides to migrate to safer grounds.
 

Thousands to benefit from Mwania water project

More than 5 villages, 3 public primary schools of Kathaayoni, Kwa Nzula, Mwania primary and Mwania dispensary in Kitise, Makueni sub county will benefit following the construction of a water pipeline, new water kiosks, storage tanks and installation of water pumping system from Mwania borehole.
The project done in partnership between Makueni and Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), a non governmental organisation for development and humanitarian aid is bound to advance the Governor’s agenda of ensuring water is brought closer to many households.
 
 

Jacaranda Health and ThinkWell join forces with Makueni County to Strengthen Maternal and Child Healthcare.

 In a landmark move aimed at improving maternal and child healthcare in Makueni County, Jacaranda Health and ThinkWell have joined forces with the county government to launch a three-year Kenya Quality Ecosystem project. 
 
This collaborative partnership seeks to link maternal and newborn health solutions with the available budget and establish a data-driven approach to address the challenges faced by mothers throughout their healthcare journeys. 
 
The ultimate goal is to drive cost efficiencies in health funds, prioritize investments in innovations, and enhance delivery of quality care, thereby positively impacting health outcomes.
 
The project commenced with a comprehensive baseline Facility Quality Assessment and Health Financing Landscaping across 30 healthcare facilities spanning the six sub-counties of Makueni.
It underscored the need for appropriate revenue allocation towards maternal, newborn, and child health, revealing opportunities for significant improvements.
 
As a result of these findings, various innovative programs have been initiated to enhance service delivery. These programs include the production of Quality of Care reports, optimization of health financing initiatives and continued implementation of Jacaranda Health’s free two-way SMS service, and a mentorship program designed to boost nurses’ confidence and preparedness to handle emergencies.
 
Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, who led the meeting, reiterated the county government’s unwavering commitment to advancing the healthcare agenda. 
 
She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) program to enhance service delivery. 
 
The partnership between ThinkWell and Jacaranda Health, which initially commenced in 2019 in Makueni County, has been marked by collaborative efforts to improve healthcare service delivery.
