KAITI & KILOME SUB COUNTIES: EMERGENCY EVACUATION CAMPS VISIT.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Friday visited areas affected by heavy rainfall as well as evacuation camps sheltering residents who were displaced due to mudslides and flooding.

Through the Department of Devolution, Emergency Services and Special Programs and well wishers, the Governor distributed relief food, mattresses, blankets, clothing, medical supplies and essential personal effects to the displaced.

The evacuation camps visited were; Katulye Primary School, Kya Kituku Primary School, Kavata Nzou Primary School (Kaiti SubCounty) and Kawese Primary in Kilome Sub County.

THE MAKUENI COUNTY DEVELOPMENT FORUM EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TODAY DONATED A CONSIGNMENT OF FOOD AND CLOTHES TO ASSIST OVER 300 HOUSEHOLDS AFFECTED BY FLOODS IN MAKUENI.

The Makueni County Development Forum Executive Committee today donated a consignment of food and clothes to assist over 300 households affected by floods in Makueni.

The donation was received by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili and CECM in charge of Emergency Services and Special Programs Japheth Mang’oka.

The COG Resource Mobilisation Committee took stock of the last one year successes, challenges and way forward in their engagement with the partners.

Governor Mutula called on the development partners to ensure equitable distribution of support to counties.

“Devolution was supposed to answer marginalization, therefore support to counties must answer that question.” He said.

This comes barely two weeks after Makueni held it’s 2nd Annual Development Partners Conference aligning to the Governors pillar of Strategic Partnerships.

MAKUENI GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JUNIOR TODAY RECEIVED THE HUDUMA OMBUDSMAN AWARD

Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior today received the HUDUMA OMBUDSMAN AWARD from the Makueni County Assembly Majority Leader Kyalo Mumo who took it on his behalf during the 4th Edition of the awards ceremony days ago.

The Governor won in the UGATUZI CATEGORY where he was recognised for LEVERAGING ON TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION FOR ENHANCED TRANSPARENCY AND SOCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY.

This recognition affirms the Governors efforts on ICT integration in all county services.

GOVERNOR MUTULA KILONZO JNR ON TUESDAY HOSTED NETHERLANDS AMBASSADOR TO KENYA MAARTEN BROUWER

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Tuesday hosted Netherlands ambassador to Kenya Maarten Brouwer in Makueni for talks on possible areas of partnership. Talks centered on green energy investment, health promotion and agriculture. The two agreed to further the discussion so as to anchor any partnership in the County Integrated Development Plan (2023-2027). Makueni plans to tap Sh 38B from partners to bridge the financing gap in the CIDP.

MAKUENI EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER (EOC) REPORT.

In light of recent developments, an urgent update from the situation room reveals that the heavy rainfall last night has resulted in the flooding of Muooni River. Unsupervised concerned community members have initiated search and recovery efforts for the four missing bodies as early as 5:00 am.

It is imperative to swiftly notify all individuals along the riverbanks downstream to immediately halt their activities, as substantial water volumes have been detected from along Matiliku to Emali bridge.

An early warning system has been activated downstream to ensure swift action and safety measures are taken as our County response teams take charge.

ENERGY DIRECTORATE CONCLUDES  INNOVATIVE ENERGY PLAN DEVELOPMENT

Makueni County Government  in collaboration with Strathmore University (SU) and the World Resource Institute (WRI) has successfully concluded a three-day workshop aimed at shaping the County Energy Plan. This partnership brings together governmental insight, academic expertise from Strathmore University, and the global perspective on sustainable development provided by WRI.

The workshop launched by County Secretary Dr. Justin Kyambi at Kusyombunguo Wote, emphasized the pivotal role of energy in daily life. Dr. Kyambi stressed the significance in powering homes, fueling industries, and propelling progress. He stated that there was a need for a comprehensive and forward-looking strategy that would meet the current County energy needs and lay a foundation for a resilient and sustainable future. He further urged stakeholders to promote the use of renewable energy sources to mitigate environmental degradation.

The workshop delved into critical topics including Bioenergy Findings and Interventions, Energy Access Findings, Electricity Modeling Scenarios, Clean Cooking Modeling, Energy Efficiency and Conservations Findings, and Cross-Cutting Issues with a focus on Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. The collaboration between the Energy Directorate, Strathmore University, and WRI promises a forward-thinking, comprehensive, and implementable energy plan for the sustainable development of Makueni County.

The three-day workshop agenda included project confirmations on the first day, validation sessions for the technical working group, departmental directors, and policy makers on the second day, and a final validation session with 30 community members from various wards on the third day.


MAKUENI PARTICIPATES IN REGIONAL TOURISM EXPO, AIMING FOR GLOBAL TOURISM MAP

In a dynamic display of tourism richness and potential, Makueni County took center stage in the just concluded East Africa Regional Expo held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi, from 20th to 22nd November 2023.

The County Government, driven by the Tourism Directorate, played a pivotal role by setting up a vibrant booth. This showcased a diverse array of locally crafted products, enticing potential tourists with a glimpse of the region’s unique offerings. Visitors were treated to a preview, where the county’s hospitality facilities and alluring attraction sites were explained in detail.

With an ambitious goal to position Makueni County as a must-visit tourist destination, this strategic participation aimed to secure a spot on both the regional and global tourism maps. The County Government envisions not only promoting its cultural heritage but also fostering economic growth, ultimately enhancing the livelihoods of its citizens.

Makueni Coffee Farmers Gain Valuable Insights to Enhance Production and Profitability from Meru Educational Tour

A delegation of 32 coffee farmers from Makueni led by the County’s Director of Agriculture Mary Muteti on Tuesday concluded a two-day educational tour in Meru County. The tour to Mukarimu Farm, owned by Charles Mutwiri, a renowned coffee farmer in the country, provided valuable insights into best agricultural practices.

Key highlights of the educational tour include:

1. Proper Crop Establishment and Canopy Management: The emphasis on proper crop establishment and canopy management indicates a focus on optimizing the growth and health of coffee plants. This is crucial for maximizing yield and ensuring the long-term sustainability of coffee farming.

2. High-Quality Coffee Variety: The promotion of high-quality coffee variety underscores the importance of selecting and cultivating coffee plants that yield superior-quality beans. This can contribute to the production of premium coffee products, enhancing the market value of the local coffee.

3. Good Governance of Cooperatives: The mention of good governance in cooperatives suggests that the tour also addressed the organizational and managerial aspects of coffee farming. Efficient cooperative governance is essential for fair distribution of benefits, transparent decision-making, and overall success in the coffee industry.

The fact that the tour was sponsored by the County Government of Makueni demonstrates a commitment to the development of the local coffee sector. Prior initiatives, such as the disbursement of Sh. 4.7 Million worth of Cherry Fund in partnership with the New KPCU PLC , further highlights the commitment to supporting farmers in adopting modern and sustainable farming practices. This financial support aims to increase coffee yields and improve overall farming practices in the region.
