Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior together with the First Lady and the Deputy Governor met and held a brief with the Ag. Makueni County Commissioner, security leaders and local politicians ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations in Makueni.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior on Friday attended the burial of Mzee Mang’oka in Kilungu Ward who is the father of Japheth Mang’oka County ECM in charge of Department of Devolution, County Administration and Emergency Services.
The Governor speaking during the burial encouraged industrial crops farmers in Kaiti and it’s environs to get back to coffee farming as it is a promising crop in the highland regions of the county. He promised coffee farmers a benchmarking tour to enhance their knowledge of the crop as well as reviving the Kithangathini and Kithumani factories.
At the same event, the Acting County Commissioner representative said the National Government through it’s security agencies will make sure that everyone is safe during this holiday season and that the security teams will not go for Christmas.
This assurance comes after a heavy shootout on Friday in Wote town where thieves who broke into several houses during the day were given a chase by the police and managed to abandon their car and flee on foot into a nearby forest.
Douglas Mbilu, The County Assembly speaker, who also attended the burial emphasised on unity of purpose for the County Assembly, County Executive and the Security agencies.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Wednesday commissioned the Ilengeni Water distribution Project at Kwa Thuku, Mbitini Ward , a transformative investment aimed at expanding access to clean and reliable water for the people.
Drawing water from the 25,000 cubic metre Ilengeni Dam, the project features a modern treatment plant, hybrid-powered pumping system, solar infrastructure, storage facilities, and an extensive distribution network.
The project will supply 160 cubic metres of clean water daily, serving Mbitini and Emali Mulala wards, and benefiting 15 villages through 9 community water points featuring 11 kilometer water pipe line and water storage facilities.
The project is a major step in the governors commitment to sustainable water access and improved livelihoods across Makueni County.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. visits the Makueni Ambulance Dispatch Centre, where he experienced first-hand how the county’s centralised ambulance management and dispatch system is strengthening emergency medical response.
The technology-enabled system is designed to improve ambulance coordination, optimise deployment, enhance response times and strengthen accountability in the delivery of emergency services across the county.
The initiative is part of Makueni’s broader efforts to modernise emergency healthcare and ensure residents can access timely and reliable ambulance services when they need them most.
The Makueni County Government on Tuesday visited and condoled with families affected by the tragic Ngoluni accident, which occurred on November 22nd . Led by Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., the county delegation offered sympathy, support, and assurances of continued assistance to the grieving families.
In an emotional day-long visit, Governor Mutula—accompanied by senior county officials—met with Musili Ngemu of Tawa, Kisau/Kieteta Ward. Ngemu lost his wife and three children in the accident. The governor’s visit was met with gratitude, with residents praising the swift and coordinated response by county health officials immediately after the tragedy.
Governor Mutula pledged that the county would support the education of Ngemu’s two surviving children, terming it a commitment to restoring hope to the devastated family. He also announced that the county had initiated action to raise road bumps along the section of the road where the accident occurred, to improve safety and prevent future incidents.
The governor later proceeded to Kaithi village in Masii, Machakos County, where he visited another victim, Leah Kimanyi, who was injured and lost two children in the same accident.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr visits 6 Mbooni accident survivors at Makueni County Referral Hospital. Among them is the driver of the ill-fated matatu.
5 of the survivors at the hospital are in stable condition while one is in the theatre.
A total of 554 people (126 families) were moved to the centres following heavy rains that caused destruction of their homes through mudslides and collapsed buildings.
The County Government established 5 centres in areas that were affected by the heavy rains in KyaKituku, Kavata Nzou and Katulye in Kaiti Sub County, Kawese in Kilome Sub County and Mikululo in Kibwezi West Sub County.
Each household will receive monies for re-developing their homes through Anglican Development Services Eastern (ADSE).
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Unveils Upgraded Kasikeu Model Health Center to Boost Local Healthcare
In a significant stride towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3, which aims to ensure health and well-being for all, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. inspected the newly renovated Kasikeu Model Health Centre and a construction of a waiting bay within the facility in Kilome on Thursday.
The Kasikeu Model Health Center, now enhanced to better serve its community, caters to an average catchment population of 8,000 residents and handles a monthly patient workload of approximately 1,400. This renovation is expected to significantly improve healthcare delivery in the area.
Accompanied by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili and other government officials, Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. is in Kilome Sub-county to oversee and inaugurate a series of development programs aimed at bolstering local infrastructure and services.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. Tuesday held a consultative meeting with representatives from the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) Lower Eastern region. The meeting focused on reviewing the status of projects being implemented by the authority, identifying areas of collaboration to complement irrigation development schemes in Makueni, mapping priority areas to ensure project sustainability, projects co-creation and scaling up support outcomes.The Governor raised concerns over stalled and delayed irrigation projects by NIA, noting that the performance of irrigation systems has a direct impact on water availability and food security.
The NIA delegation was led by Rispah Okumbe, the Regional Coordinator for the Lower Eastern region, and accompanied by members of the Kikome Irrigation Scheme.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr today led a delegation of County Executive Committee Members who held a consultative meeting with the Moroccan Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Abderrazazak Laassel to discuss areas of partnership.
The partnership areas that were discussed included Imaging and Laboratory Services under the Health Department, Climate Change adaptation, Urbanization, Natural resource mapping and mitigation strategies under the Lands Department, and Feasibility studies of water projects in the CIDP, preparing them for donor funding.
Other key areas that were explored included Renewable Energy sources in powering health facilities from dispensaries to level 5 hospitals, power stability and reduction in power operating costs, powering water sources, water distribution, and irrigation processes.
In agriculture, green energy was explored as a means to promote post-harvest practices that increase the shelf life of agricultural produce through the use of solar-powered cold rooms.
Furthermore, community and user capacity building on renewable energy was also discussed in order to enhance knowledge of new technologies in the sector.
