Nazi Signs MoU on Menstrual Hygiene Management

Makueni County First lady Nazi Kivutha on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the County First Ladies Association, African cotton Industries Limited and Kenya Red Cross Society.

The tripartite partnership is geared towards implementing menstrual hygiene management program across all the counties

The main agenda of the MoU is to create awareness on adolescent reproductive health needs and provision of conducive policy and social environment for menstrual management

Nazi, who is also the chairperson to the First Ladies association, said the MoU will create a platform in which the parties will cooperate in the realization of the respective strategies and plans.

“The program will focus on menstrual hygiene management, adolescent sexual and reproductive health education, nutrition education, mentorship and life skills development and policy influence,” the First Lady said.

According to Nazi, the program will be launched on May 3, 2018 before a coordinated implementation can kick off

She said the purpose of the MoU was to lay out the framework for collaboration between the parties adding that it will help promote joint actions by the three groups.

The parties will in accordance with the provisions of the MoU, Nazi said will endeavor to work together and maintain a continuous working relationship.

Activities to be undertaken under the MoU will be identified and jointly implemented by the parties.

Also to be undertaken includes advocacy for reproductive health, campaign against FGM and early childhood marriages among other Gender Based Violence (GBV) issues.

The First Ladies Association will help the group with mobilization of resources, mentorship, coordination and administration of the program

National Mango Conference rekindles farmers’ hopes .

The three-day national mango conference came to an end on Thursday with thousands of farmers hoping to reap big from their mango farms and have their products be part of consignments to EU countries.
Today the delegates had a field visit to various mango farms, value-addition firms, and a tour of the Kalamba Fruit Processing Plant.
The climax of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Makueni Governor, H.E. Mutula Kilonzo Jr, and Cornelly Serem, Chairman, of the Agriculture, and Food Authority Board, for a stronger Kenyan mango industry and better markets.
 

 

NATIONAL IRRIGATION AUTHORITY PARTNERS MAKUENI TO COMBAT WATER SCARCITY IN KITHUKI

The National Irrigation Authority in collaboration with the County Government of Makueni has unveiled a 100,000 cubic meters (equivalent to 100 million liters) water capacity earthdam in Kiuuku village, in Kitise/Kithuki Ward. 

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Vincent Musyoka, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Energy Committee and Mwala MP, flanked by John Kieti, the County Executive Committee Member for Water in Makueni and area MP Suzanne Kiamba on Wednesday. 

The Ksh 19M project aims to address the persistent water scarcity in the ward by providing a reliable source for both domestic use and micro-irrigation. About 7,000 residents will benefit from this project.

National Greening Agenda

President William Ruto, flanked by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Monday led hundreds of Makueni residents in planting 100,000 tree seedlings at Kiu Wetland, Makindu Ward, during the #NationalTreeGrowingDay

This exercise is geared towards landscape and ecosystems restoration where 15 billion trees will be grown in the next decade. Makueni targets to grow 344 million trees by the year 2032.

National Government School feeding program

School-going children from 115 schools in Makueni are set to benefit from a feeding program, courtesy of the National Government.

The relief food, which comprises 280 bags of rice and 126 bags of beans targets primary schools in Kibwezi East and West, Mbooni, and Kilome constituencies which are most vulnerable.

The food is distributed by the county government and will act as an incentive for families to enroll and keep children in school

 

NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE, MAKUENI COUNTY EXPLORE AREAS OF COLLABORATION

A high-level delegation from the National Defence College, comprising participants from the Kenya Defence Forces, officers from across Africa and Asia, and representatives from various national institutions, is touring Makueni County to assess its contribution to national security and the impact of devolution.

During the visit, the team explored potential areas of collaboration with the County government, particularly in disaster management, capacity building, and strengthening institutional systems.

The team explored the nexus between County development and security.

The delegation also proposed benchmarking of the Makueni Fruit Processing Authority to some of the KDF production plants to help boost its capacity, describing the facility as a “sleeping giant” with the potential to increase local revenue and enhance overall security through economic empowerment.

The Makueni County team led by the County Secretary Dr. Justine Kyambi briefed the delegation on how the devolved unit has embraced transparent and accountable governance systems to ensure prudent use of public resources.

The visiting team further highlighted key areas affecting national security, including health, water, climate change, food security, and environmental management, emphasizing the need for strengthened collaboration.

The discussions also touched on how Makueni County is leveraging partnerships to bridge financial gaps in development projects, contributing to national stability and security.

Makueni county delegation led by CECMs Elizabeth Muli (ICT, Education and Internship) and Dr. Paul Musila(Health Services) met with Nairobi county Health, Wellness and Nutrition Sector team led by the CECM, Dr Anastasia Nyalita to showcase the experience Makueni county has had with Maisha Med Technology in management of health commodities supplied by KEMSA.
The system used in Makueni facilitates better transparency and accountability across the supply chain system and contribute to inventory accuracy up to the health facilities.

NADCO TEAM CROWNS MAKUENI GOLD STANDARD FOR DEVOLUTION

The National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) implementation team has endorsed Makueni County as a national model for devolution after an assessment visit.

Led by Dr. Agnes Zani, the team is overseeing the rollout of the NADCO report’s 10-point reform agenda.

The committee praised Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. for disciplined, hands-on leadership and a governance model that places communities at the center of planning and budgeting—capturing the essence of bottom-up development.

Makueni’s strong working relationship between the executive and the County Assembly was highlighted as a pillar of accountability under the Constitution.

NADCO officials cited the county’s performance in local revenue generation, integrated governance, and structured public participation as standout strengths. They also singled out the Ward Development Fund for driving equitable resource allocation and commended efforts to implement the one-third gender rule.

Makueni Deputy governor Lucy Mulili also attended the meeting.
