Saturday, May 13, 2023/ Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr graced Tusome Foundation /MINA motivation and Prize giving ceremony at Ikalyoni secondary school, Kilungu, Kaiti sub-county, where Students, and teachers are getting awarded for their good performance in different fields including those who excelled in last year’s KCPE & KCSE examinations.
The governor’s 2016 brainchild Tusome Foundation covers 6 primary schools, and 1 secondary school and has been doing welfare activities, supporting education, and environmental conservation.

First Lady Anita Mutula to spearhead maternal and child health programmes

Makueni First Lady H.E. Anita Mutula will work in collaboration with the Department of Health Services towards better healthcare for children.

Anita revealed this during finalisation of 2023/2024 annual work plan. The event had brought together all the top managerial teams of the health docket.

The workplan will be the blueprint that will guide in areas of prioritization for health interventions as per the available resources as well as partner support.

While addressing the participants, the First Lady reiterated the need to curb malnutrition and premature births as a catalyst to increasing child survival.

Further, she underscored that malnutrition remains a huge public health burden and is the single greatest contributor to child mortality across the country.

Anita as well emphasised the importance of improving Reproductive and Maternal health services to address the needs of mothers.

Anita will be supporting the department in advocacy for service uptake as well as resource mobilization as the county works towards achieving the highest attainable quality of Health Servives.

 

Walking the Journey with Makueni Emerging Entrepreneurs at Makueni PWD Vocational and Training Center

The Kenya Small Business Development Centers (KSBDC) in partnership with Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme II (ASDSP II) is currently spearheading a sensitization Workshop for Makueni Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises on the existence of Kenya Small Business Development Centers (KSBDC) and services offered in the centers, with an aim of supporting, coaching and mentorship for sustained business growth.
 
KSBDC is a pilot program implemented by Strathmore University Business School (SBS) in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with a vision of transferring best practices in business development and advisory services through training, consulting and policy research and market intelligence.
 
Makueni SBDC is located at the Makueni People with Disability Vocational Training Center Offices Off Wote Malivani road and is open for free services to emerging entrepreneurs.

The First-Ever National Mango Conference and Exhibition in Kenya.

Makueni County, the leader in mango production with a margin of 19%, Lamu (13.9%), Kilifi (7.9%), and Meru (7.7) will be hosting the first-ever National Mango Conference and Exhibition in Kenya next week from May 16-18, 2023 themed “Winning Markets for Kenyan Mangoes”.
H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr :“The initiative is of very great benefit to the farmers of Makueni, who for a long period have been facing unfavorable markets for their produce. The farmers will also get the opportunity to be educated on farming and use of chemicals that are recommended for international markets,”

A partnership between Makueni and The World Agroforestry (ICRAF) yields big for locals in the semi-arid areas of Mbooni East, and Kibwezi sub-counties as governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr receives and immediately flags off several water tanks, solar water pump, dam liners, shed nets, potting tubes, assorted high-value tree species and scions, slope boards, spirit levels, and nylon twines, together with tree nursery tools and equipment.
The governor has assured his commitment to addressing water problems which is his top agenda for the people of Makueni

Strengthening devolution

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili accompanied by CECM Devolution Japheth Mang’oka, Irene Makau (Chief officer Devolution and Public Participation) and Civic Education Officers today held talks with Africa’s Voices Foundation(AVF) team led by Damaris Ndegwa, Director of Business Operations,
to explore strategic areas of partnership on strengthening citizen participation in decision-making processes.

Makueni County Prepares for the Roll Out of Indigenous Knowledge Documentation and Digitization Project.

A delegation from the State Department of Culture and Heritage, Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage led by Dr. Evans Taracha, the National Coordinator of the Natural Products Industry (NPI) Initiative and leader of the indigenous knowledge documentation and digitization project, met with the Makueni County project implementation team led by Peter Mumo Nyamai, the County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industry, Marketing, Culture and Tourism, to plan for the roll out of the project.
The overall goal of the project is to advance protection, promotion and valorization (value addition) of Kenya’s indigenous knowledge and associated assets. The project will support the County government in meeting its obligations in the Protection of Traditional Knowledge and Cultural Expressions Act, 2016 by setting up the County digital repository of traditional knowledge and cultural expressions and associated ICT equipment and building capacity of the County government in the documentation and digitization of indigenous knowledge.
The pilot project that is implemented in Makueni County under the Department of Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture and Tourism is spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage through the Natural Products Industry (NPI) Initiative, a Kenya Vision 2030 flagship project. It is envisaged that the project will stimulate a new growth area of the economy that harnesses indigenous knowledge and associated assets.
