The Support for resilient livelihoods in the South of Madagascar (Mionjo) on Tuesday morning paid a courtesy call to Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr during their learning tour of two projects; the Financing Locally-Led Action Program (FLLoCA) and the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Program (KCSAP).
The two similar projects to Mionjo ones back in Madagascar work towards strengthening devolution through sustainable agriculture, climate adaptative strategies, and improving food security.
The Governor termed participatory development, evidence-based planning, and household mapping worthy to be borrowed since they are key in realizing the fruits of devolution.

Protecting Devolution.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr today was among governors who attended the full council meeting to deliberate on pertinent issues protecting devolution for the Makueni people and Kenya at large.
It was addressed among other issues that:
i) Treasury should immediately release sh. 94.35 billion owed to the Counties lest operations within the counties will be shut down after 14 days ultimatum.
ii) Conveyed dissatisfaction after the senate voted against Division of a revenue bill, 2023 that would have seen counties get sh. 407 billion as an equitable share in FY 2023/2024.
 

Governor Mutula flags off Makueni team to KYISA Games, Tharaka Nithi.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr today flagged off Makueni team to the eighth edition of Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association (KYISA) Games slated for next week in Tharaka Nithi.
While addressing the youngsters aged 18-23 years during the flagging off ceremony, the governor assured them of his support in nurturing talents and ensuring Makueni continues producing champions in sports.
The Executive for Gender, Children, Youth, sports and Social ,Services, Nicholas Nzioka, on his bid said he was very certain that they had a formidable team in the three disciplines of football, volleyball and basketball that will excel in the competition.
The KYISA games under theme, “Talanta Mashinani” kicks off on Monday and will be played in Kajiunduthi stadium, Kairuni, Kibugua, and Chuka University, Chuka Girls’ High School and Chuka Boys’ High School.
The ceremony was attended by CECMs-Japheth Musyoka Mang’oka (Devolution, Public Service, Public Participation & Special Programmes), Peter Mumo Nyamai (Trade, Marketing, Industry, Culture & Tourism, Irene Makau (CO Devolution), Stephen Ndolo (Health), Catherine Syombua (C.O gender & sports), MCAs Felix Mateso (Wote/Nziu) and Elizebeth Muthike Muli (Nominated).

Diaspora public participation engagement

Over 300 Makueni residents living in Mombasa on Tuesday engaged in public participation forum for the 2023/24 Financial Year budget estimates at Jambo restaurant in Mombasa.
Water projects,Healthcare and roads infrastructure topped in the list of the needs they want the county government to undertake in the next FY.
Speaking while addressing the forum,Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili promised that Governor Mutula’s administration is keen on delivering on key projects that benefit the local mwananchi.
Mulili also warned that their government will not tolerate lazy contractors who do shoddy jobs at the expense of public money.
The public participation model allows local people in the county decide which development projects to embark on and then manage them once they are commissioned.
The DG was flanked by devolution CEC,Japheth Mang’oka, Education and ICT CEC,Elizabeth Muli, Water and Sanitation CEC Eng. Kasyoki Kieti,several chief officers and members of County Budget and Economic Forum.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr on Monday flagged off a team of students from Mwaani Girls high school that will be competing in narrative and play during the 2023 Kenya National Drama and Film Festival, Mombasa.
The governor challenged youth, often considered “digital natives” to take advantage of the Makueni’s professional space-Ajiry Centre in a safe way to showcase their talents, and get earnings.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Monday received a donation of IT equipment from Kenya Cereal Enhancement Program Climate Resilient Agricultural Livelihoods (KCEP-CRAL) officials to boost the Sub-County Agricultural Officers’ performance on data and information management flow.
The KCEP-CRAL team led by the Senior Program Coordinator Dr. Cosmas Munyeke was in Makueni for an official introductory meeting on the program to the governor as they hand over the equipment.
KCEP-CRAL program, which kicked off in 2018 in Makueni, aims to reduce rural poverty and food insecurity among smallholder farmers in arid and semi-arid lands by developing their economic potential, while improving their natural resource management capacity and resilience to climate change in an increasingly fragile ecosystem.
At least 16,000 subsistence farmers have benefited from the program through the provision of farm inputs through e- voucher system, financial inclusion, post-production management practices and market linkages for targeted value chains.

Governor condoles with finance CECM family as they lay mother to rest

H.E Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr on Saturday condoled with the family of the late Esther Ndunge Ndambuki, mother to Makueni’s Finance CECM Damaris Kavoi at at AIC Kwamathathi, Kangundo, machakos County.
The Governor eulogized the late Esther Ndunge,84, an educationist, as a dependable resource to her family and the greater society who took education of the girl-child serious.
He was accompanied by H.E Lucy Mulili (Deputy Governor), CECMs Japheth Mang’oka (Devolution), Elizabeth Muli (Education & ICT), County Secretary Dr. Justine Kyambi, majority leader Kyalo Mumo, among several County officials.
 

Opening up roads to enhance communication and trading activities

In an effort to enhance communication and trading activities in Makueni and Kibwezi West sub counties,Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili on Friday launched construction of the the 31.5 kilometers Kwa Mutula road,a critical road linking Mbitini,Emali all through to Kasikeu wards.
In her speech to the residents at Kwa Mutula Market,Mulili stated that upon completion in three months time,the road is expected to open up Makueni-Kibwezi West’s food basket to the rest of the county.
To urbanize the region even further, the Deputy Governor reiterated Governor Mutula administration ‘s commitment to elevate Emali-Sultan Municipality status.
She reported that roads are an enabler of development and a driver of the economy by providing linkages between farmers and markets.
