Deputy Governor’s Development Tour in Kalamba

Makueni County Deputy Governor Hon. Adelina Mwau today lead her Nandi County counterpart Hon. Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot on a development tour to the Kalamba fruit processing plant among other sectors of development in the County.
The team was impressed by the development projects initiated by the Makueni County government to it’s people. Dr. Yulita commented on Kivutha Kibwana’s leadership,saying that he has truly defined devolution by the many life changing projects already in use. By the end of this Mangoe season, Kalamba  fruit processing plant is projected to process 2100 metric tonnes of raw mango from across the country, producing 4,000 drums of mango puree.
The plant will curb 40 percent of post-harvest fruit waste that farmers used to grapple with in the past. With value addition, curbed waste and stabilised prices, the value of the mango sector in Makueni is projected to increase immensely from the current KES 3 Billion. Later in the day the Nandi team, will also visit Kikima Dairy Plant before ending their development tour to Makueni. “It has been a pleasure hosting Her Excellency Dr.Yulita in our great county and I hope that she will take home some good lessons from us.” Adelina noted.

Deputy Governor Showcases Makueni’s Vibrant Products, Honorable Raila Odinga Joins Conference

The second day of the 8th Devolution Conference witnessed remarkable strides as delegates gathered to discuss the integration of technology and digital economy into devolved sectors for robust economic growth.
 
 The event, which is taking place in Uasin-Gishu county  saw Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili welcoming attendees at the Makueni county’s exhibition booth, showcasing a wide array of Makueni-made products.
 
The Makueni exhibition booth drew attention for its diverse offerings, ranging from delectable mango juice to intricate handcrafts.
 Mulili expressed pride in the county’s accomplishments and its commitment to contributing to Kenya’s economic development through innovative products and ideas.
 
Notably, the conference was graced by the presence of opposition leader Rt. Honorable Raila Odinga, who addressed the attendees and highlighted the significance of devolution in advancing the country’s growth agenda. 
Odinga’s presence underscored the bipartisan commitment to the success of devolution in Kenya.
 
The heart of the conference lay in the engaging panel discussions that explored the fusion of technology and devolved sectors.
 
 With a focus on the digital economy, panelists delved into strategies for effectively integrating technology into various levels of governance. 
 
The dialogue centered on leveraging technology to enhance service delivery, improve resource allocation, and foster economic development within the devolved regions.
 
In the afternoon forum, participants engaged in breakaway sessions that touched upon diverse sectors, each aiming to harness the potential of devolution for maximum impact.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR RECEIVES DELEGATION FROM NUTRITION INTERNATIONAL.

On Wednesday, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili welcomed a high-level delegation from Nutrition International, led by the organization’s Vice President of Program Operations, Dr. Paula Tanaglia.

The delegation was in Makueni to assess the progress of ongoing nutrition programs and more specific on Adolescent Health and Nutrition program that supports adolescent girls and boys in the county.

Nutrition International has partnered with Makueni County to implement a comprehensive health and nutrition program aimed at improving the health of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, newborns, children under five, and adolescents.

The Adolescent health and nutrition initiative involves a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Departments of Health Services, Teacher Service Commission and Gender by providing adolescents with Nutrition education and weekly iron and folic acid supplements (WIFS) to boost their feeding practices and avert anaemia and its symptoms among the girls.

The program is currently being implemented in 590 schools across the County.

Program coordinators reported significant improvements in adolescent health and nutrition, as well as enhanced academic performance among girls and a reduction in absenteeism in schools among others.

Mulili expressed her appreciation for the partnership and announced plans to increase budget allocations to expand the program further.

In addition to the nutrition initiative, Nutrition International has also partnered with the county to implement gender mainstreaming in adolescent health and nutrition, a program spearheaded by the deputy governor.

The initiative has been piloted in 20 schools across Kaiti, Makueni, Mbooni, and Kibwezi West sub-counties.

Dr. Paula Tanaglia, Nutrition International’s Vice President of Program Operations, expressed her delight at witnessing the positive impact the program has had on the children.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR PUSHES MAKUENICARE ROLLOUT IN THANGE

Makueni County Deputy governor Lucy Mulili on Tuesday intensified push for the rollout of Makuenicare (aka Mutula Care), urging residents of Thange Ward to register vulnerable households for the county-backed health cover programme.

Mulili said the initiative will provide 600 beneficiaries per ward with hospital cards, with the County Government of Makueni settling their medical bills. She called on local leaders and residents to ensure the most deserving families are enlisted.

The Deputy Governor also highlighted ongoing development projects, including strengthening the mango value chain through the Kalamba Fruit Processing Plant, as well as investments in rural roads and water infrastructure to boost service delivery.

She spoke in Thange Ward after attending condoling with Francisca Mauta Musau’s family.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR MULILI JOINS PRAYER SESSION AT WOTE HUDUMA CENTRE

Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili on Friday morning joined a prayer session at the Wote Huduma Centre to mark Huduma Prayer Day.

The event brought together officers, including Makueni Deputy County Commissioner Paul Lagat, to seek God’s guidance in serving the public.

Mulili called on officers to embrace humility and dedication as they serve residents, stressing that Huduma Centres were created to make government services accessible under one roof.

She commended the Wote Huduma Centre team for their fast and reliable service, which has so far reached over 800,000 people since the centre was established.

The Deputy Governor also assured residents that she will follow up on setting up county government desks at the centre to expand services further.

The prayer session served as a reminder that public service is not just about efficiency but also about compassion and commitment to the people.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR MARKS WORLD AIDS DAY, CAUTIONS OF UPSURGE OF CASES

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, joined by CEC Health Services Dr. Paul Musila, marked World AIDS Day at Kibwezi Township Primary in Kibwezi West Sub-county on Friday. 

Musila highlighted the county’s progress, noting a substantial drop in HIV/AIDS cases from 595 in 2022 to 323 this year. He reaffirmed the commitment to providing comprehensive healthcare, treatment, and preventive services.

Mulili emphasized the importance of health awareness campaigns in eliminating the AIDS scourge and urged the community to reject stigmatization, a major barrier to accessing counseling and testing services. 

She warned of rising HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, and gender-based violence, identifying them as triple threats to our communities. Mulili called on all health stakeholders to contribute to building a peaceful society.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR LUCY MULILI WELCOMES A DELEGATION FROM SIGHT SAVERS AND THE KENYA SOCIETY FOR THE BLIND, AHEAD OF THE BORESHA MACHO EYE HEALTH PROJECT LAUNCH.

The initiative aims to provide residents of Makueni with accessible, affordable, and quality eye care services, focusing on the detection and treatment of refractive errors.

Through this partnership, the county plans to screen more than 100,000 residents and distribute over 12,000 spectacles to those in need.

Additionally, the programme will strengthen local health capacity by training more than 300 Community Health Promoters and 22 healthcare workers across all six sub-counties. Sightsavers

DEPUTY GOVERNOR LUCY MULILI OFFICIALLY OPENS THE INAUGURAL UNIFIED SPORTS TOURNAMENT

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili has officially inaugurated the First Edition of the Unified Sports Tournament at KMTC grounds in Wote, Makueni.

The tourney spans two days and is hosting 132 athletes, consisting of 72 individuals with intellectual disabilities, 60 unified partners and 24 coaches.

The event is a collaborative effort between the Government of Makueni County and Nike through Special Olympics to promote female participation in sports among those with intellectual disabilities.

Teams will compete for various awards including cash prizes and trophies.

Notable officials present at the event include Glen Cundari from Coach +, Jeff Lahart from Special Olympics International, as well as Susan Masila from Special Olympics Kenya.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR LUCY MULILI LEADS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS IN KIBWEZI WEST

Siembeni Market in Kikumbulyu South Ward was a hive of activity on Saturday as women from all walks of life gathered to mark this year’s International Women’s Day.

The event, led by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili, was a powerful call to action for gender equality, women’s rights, and empowerment.

Addressing the gathering, Mulili urged leaders in political positions to champion the full spectrum of women’s and girls’ rights, emphasizing the need to foster gender equality and empowerment.

She highlighted Makueni’s strides in advancing gender equity through key policies, including the Makueni County Gender Policy, Children Policy, Disability Policy, Social Protection Policy, Ultra-Poor Graduation Policy, and the Gender-Based Violence Policy, among others.

“This year’s theme, ‘For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,’ is a reminder that we must work collectively to ensure every woman and girl enjoys equal opportunities and a dignified life,” she said.

The event was graced by prominent leaders, including County MP Hon. Rose Museo, who reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for women’s empowerment.

Also in attendance were Kibwezi West MP Ecomas Mwengi Mutuse, alongside MCAs Brian Nzioka (Masongaleni) and Francis Mulwa (Mtito-Andei), among other dignitaries.

DEPUTY GOVERNOR LUCY MULILI LEADS COUNTY IN CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili led Makueni County’s centenary celebrations for 100 years of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Kenya on Wednesday, held in Makindu town.

The nationwide celebrations feature a torch relay across counties to raise awareness among youth about TVET opportunities and equip them with employable skills.

Mulili received the TVET torch on behalf of Makueni County. The torch had arrived from the Coast region.

Makueni boasts three TVET institutions—Wote Technical Institute, Kibwezi West, and David M. Wambuli TVCs.

Addressing the public, Mulili emphasized the vocational institutions as powerful engines that drive industrial growth, combat youth unemployment, and support Kenya’s ambitious national goals outlined in Vision 2030.
