DEPUTY GOVERNOR LUCY MULILI LAUNCHES ULTRA-POOR GRADUATION POLICY IN WOTE

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili today presided over the launch of the Ultra-Poor Graduation Policy at Wote Green Park.

The initiative, spearheaded by the County Department of Gender, Children, Youth, Sports, and Social Services in collaboration with Village Enterprise, aims to empower the ultra-poor to achieve socio-economic resilience and self-sufficiency. Through the program, beneficiaries have gained financial literacy skills, enabling them to build financial capacity and access banking services from mainstream financial institutions and the Makueni County Empowerment Fund.

The event was graced by key county leaders, including County Secretary Justin Kyambi, Executive Committee Member for Gender Eng. Sebastian Kyoni, Makueni Public Service Board CEO Redempta Kavindu, and Chief Officer Nicholis Mutua, among others.

On Tuesday, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili warmly welcomed officials from the Council of Governors’ Knowledge Management team. The visit is part of an initiative to document and showcase success stories from the county, which will be featured in the COG’s Maarifa Center.

This collaborative effort aims to highlight the county’s achievements and best practices, contributing to a broader knowledge-sharing platform that benefits all counties. The Maarifa Center serves as a repository of innovative solutions and success stories, promoting effective governance and development across the nation.

Mulili expressed her enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing the importance of sharing knowledge and learning from each other’s experiences to drive progress and improvement in governance.

She expressed her commitment to the initiative, pledging to champion efforts to centralize knowledge management within Makueni. This will ensure that the county continues to share and benefit from collective wisdom and achievements.

The visiting team, led by Winnie Kithome, Makueni’s Knowledge Management Champion to the Council of Governors, will be in the county for four days.

Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili graced the prize-giving ceremonies at Kitaingo Springs of Hope Primary School and Nduluni Secondary School on Saturday .

At Kitaingo Springs of Hope, Mulili emphasized the crucial role of parental involvement in children’s lives, especially during school breaks, to safeguard against incidents of abuse.

Addressing students at Nduluni Secondary School, Mulili underscored the importance of discipline in achieving academic success.

Mulili highlighted education as a powerful equalizer and encouraged students to focus on their studies without being hindered by their backgrounds. She motivated them to aspire to become future leaders through dedication to learning.

Furthermore, Mulili urged students across schools to refrain from destructive actions such as burning and damaging property during strikes, reminding them of the added burden it places on their parents.

The area member of County Assembly for Ilima and Kasikeu wards Jonathan Muthoka and Reuben Musau were in attendance.

Deputy Governor commissions new health facility wing

The opening of a 22- bed capacity twin ward at Kyambeke Health Center in Ilima ward, by Deputy Governor H.E Lucy Mulili on Thursday will provide much-needed medical services to an estimated over 5,000 residents.
The building which has been realized through a donation from the “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints” to the county government will cut the distance of seeking medication elsewhere from the far-flung hilly Ilima villages.
“This facility will put to an end the long hours of traveling to other health facilities in the neighboring sub-counties,” Mulili stated
Flanked by the area MCA Hon. Jonathan Muthoka, nominated MCA Hon. Sarah Mbilo and Ag. Chief Officer of Health Services Dr. Stephen Ndolo, Mulili reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering accessible and affordable Healthcare services to all the people.
She noted that the county has partnered with KEMSA so as to ensure a steady supply of Medicine to all the county health facilities.
The church funded two wards (female and male) and supplied equipment including patient beds, an oxygen concentrator, an autoclave, medical refrigerators, wheelchairs, and furniture among others.

Deputy Chief Justice and Deputy Governor condemn Kilungu Minor’s gang rape

Deputy Chief Justice Phelomena  Mwilu has condemned an incident where a standard six pupil at Kilungu Ward was defiled by a gang of several men.

The girl is allegedly said to have been gang raped by 21 men,one of them alleged to be a primary school teacher.

Mwilu said that that acts of sexual offenses are highly punishable adding that those who commit such offenses against the young are supposed to be severely punished.

“When you molest a young girl.You should get  life imprisonment as punishment,” The Deputy Chief Justice said.

Mwilu who is also the deputy president of the Supreme Court urged magistrates not to be linient on those found to have committed sexual offenses especially those who violate children.

She said that magistrates have no options but to stick to the law when handling rape related cases.

She urged the society not to harbour or sympathise with those found to be violating others sexually.

“Parents should be cautious and remain watchful especially when children are out alone,”Ms Mwilu stated.

Makueni Deputy Governor Adelina Mwau, promised a psycho social aid and exclusive medical  support to the young girl.

Mwau expressed shock that grown men would molest and defile a  kid in turns terming it the most horrendous sexual act ever.

Defilement cases are on the rise  with Makueni recording an escalating trend.

She said that the County Government is putting up a gender based recovery center at Makueni level 4 hospital that will see GBV victims acquire psycho social support as well as proper treatment and care.

The two were speaking after a church service at St Patrick Catholic Church, Kyamatheka in Kaiti Constituency.
